For sure. I actually came from your tone universe but somehow teleported to my current one a few years ago as my tastes changed and I realized I just wanted to sound like a super fat, slightly dirty, amplified upright....haha....and I've watched a ton of your videos before and if I showed up to any of my gigs (except church they'd love it!) with your tone my bands would freak out! haha....doesn't mean you're not a badass!!

Nice clip. Since you have a fondness for 15" speakers try and find an older swr big ben 1x18. When I got my kbp-5 the only big speaker I had was an swr 1x15. While the tone was plot just didn't have the thump I was looking for with the kbp. I was looking at 2x15 cabs when a big ben came up locally and I was able to score it on the cheap. I use the 1x15, 1x18 cabs withe either a mark bass lmk2, a walkabout, or an ampeg v4 bh. Gives me the old pbass and dub sounds I here in my head.

LG5 is strung with TIs. Ran it through my EA IAMP Pro/NL210 rig. Tone control rolled off and the deep switch engaged on the Pro. Well there it is the creamy goodness of Mitch's Hip Hop sub synth bass tone. Not sure if anyones gonna pay me to use that tone but if I ever need to loosen a rusted out bolt I've got a tool for the job......:eek:

hey Dave,

I've used and loved those Big Bens, but I remember them being really heavy, and my Epifani 15s sound just WAY too good for their weight....but I can imagine 2 of those stacked must be heavenly!

Hahaha! Didn't you know, I'm actually a carpenter and I specialize in loosening rusty bolts! That tone also works out really well in any neo-soul/R&B setting as well as most rock (as long as I don't have to slap or do any chris squire sounding lines) and gospel! I just adjust the bass knob on my amp from flat to like 2 o'clock depending on how fat it needs to be....haha and those deep switches are my best friends!

I am going to go back to a set of round wounds on the LG5 until my LM5 arrives. I did a second rehersal with that new group and the TIs are just not cutting it with their material.

I am also going to shoot Jimmy a note and see if I can get an ETA on my LM...

Just got an email back looks like another week or so before it gets back from paint. I can't imagine it will take all that long to assemble and get out the door, but I am eternally optomistic...

Guys,
As much as I like to bust Ken's chops (all in good fun tho of course), he really wasn't saying the tone was generally bad, or even worse, wrong for the musical setting. This really was just him kiddin' around with us about his general anti-P orientation.

Can't recall if it was in this thread, but he did a tropical gig where he played a supplied bass and yep, it was a P. I gave him endless crap about "converting" and stuff (which of course he deflected).

Anyway, don't read too much into his comment... it really was just kiddin' around and not meaning to seriously dis the P bass or its appropriate applications. P vs J is like Ford vs Chevy. You gotta' be able to throw some tongue-in-cheek jabs back and forth or it's just no fun anymore. :)

Why am I posting this? Because I figure Ken's already on the road and off TB until next week. He's headed out to a place for the weekend that I don't think he has internet access at, and I didn't want this to fester into more than it needed to be before he had a chance to reply (again).
