Well, it depends on your goal with your comments.

If your goal is to try and write an assessment of the bass that is more generally informative to lots of people, then yeah, you probably need to get an amp that is a little more straightforward from a tone standpoint. The problem with the '61 B12n is that lots of people haven't really had the chance to spend lots of time with one, so they don't really have the ability to translate what you say to what the bass might sound like without the voicing of that amp, which is pretty significant, as I recall.

If your goal is to assess how great the bass works for you with your amp, then you're good as is.

That's a beauty, and your tone description (warm but not particularly grindy down low, sizzly and airy up high) is exactly the way mine sounded when I had it (I still have a clip up on my icomposition homepage, homepage link in my profile).

NICE bass, and I totally dig the color. The black blocks and binding are going to kill with that bass! Enjoy!

Point well taken, I will try to record a few samples with my Millenia TD-1, which should give me a better idea on how it sounds truly uncolored

Close, but not correct.
They are BOTH Surf, however Orlan's is poly, which does a different hue and amps up the green a bit. Seen together my Nitro Surf looks more blue, making it look like Sea Foam.
When viewed without the Poly Surf, the Nitro Surf green comes out and the blue recedes (not quite as green as your's though, Ken, I don't believe, but paint batch variance aside...). The poly Surf is actually greener than yours I think.

Nice to meet you Orlan...that surf poly really POPS! ...and with that RW neck with blocks and bindings...WOW!

Cool, they both look great. The top one seems very similar to my surf green LG. I love both 'hues' a lot.

I did find that surf green more vibrant that I thought as I almost fell off my chair! (something similar must've happened to you I guess heheh) If It's ok with you I can upload the necks pic.

I was quite impressed and shocked with the color (I still am) and having the pic with the two basses... It was great in all ways as I like green Jazz basses and it was nice to compare these sort of siblings... So I'm right with you, Ken. Loving both hues a lot:cool:

Yes, it took a minute (and an email to Jimmy) for me to understand what I was seeing....LOVE them both.
