They are pretty close. but not exact.... The 4 has slightly more mid growl.. Perhaps due to the African RW fingerboard? I love that African RW, even more than the DN stuff..
They are both about the same weight. Pretty light...
The P 5 is slightly more open on top.... and has sizzle.. yet articulate with punch..
I have been playing 5 string basses since 1983... But I like my P4 best over any of my basses.. It just feels like home..

I used the LM5 at a gig last night and I am so pleased with the tone. To the point I am again starting to think about pairing it down to the LM5 being my only bass. It is an original project so we only did one set, but no issues with the 10.75lb, it really was a non issue.
It was my first gig with a drummer using isolation panels, man what a difference...

Yep, check back with us in about 10 years. We'll be calling you both Quasimodo. My LM5 Deluxe comes in at exactly 12.40 pounds...

Move over Tom Barney

For the RECORD I LOVE the heavy bodies-feel, tone...
How does a body "look" heavy? Oh wait, see above....and even their look...

I guess I'd have the same question for you then. I've seen similar grain patterns on both light and heavy ash.I think he's talking about the look of a heavy piece of northern ash.

They were:
1. RA 5 Ice Blue. Nice light weight and beauty to play and look at. LOUDER overall than my LM. Very rich mids. Nice slap and finger tone of course. BUT the LM had more transparency, character and a tighter more focused Low B string --everyone's opinion on the last point also.
2. LG 5 CAOJ. Again, even a lighter body. Superlative dark and rich finger tone. Louder overall than my LM. Slap tone was great but not the razor sharp-sweet Marcus quality that the LM can impart. It too had a smaller body and access to BOTH frets 20 and 21 were challenging. My colleague who owns this bass agreed that he much preferred my LM5 to his LG5 and he is a professional symphony bassist of a major orchestra, theatre free lance player and enthusiast of the highest order-hence he has seasoned tastes when it comes to matters of the LF.
Yeah, and I understood that, but it's also why I kinda' poked a little fun at him.Not really sure... the heavy Northerns that I've owned and seen did seem to have a bit of different look (the whole look, not just the grain), but again, doesn't matter to me (that's what paint is for)... just interpreting what I think the poster was talking about, since I have experienced the same thing when I think about it.
Yeah, and I understood that, but it's also why I kinda' poked a little fun at him.
No biggie, just razzin' folks. It's Friday.![]()

That being said, I too prefer my LM tone by far over the RA (which I no longer own) and my LG (which I love for what it is).

I have an LM coming with the new body style that came in at just under 11 pounds (even without sanding) after putting all the parts on the digital scale. Final on the bass will be approx 10 3/4.
