gigging my Oly White LG 5

For the record -- Forget all those concerns I had about going from the bigger body to the smaller one. I used my new one last night and I'm seriously smitten! This thing smokes.

I'm now trying to justify having 3 LG5's (well at least in language my wife will buy!)

I can't wait for my LM to be done.

so how do the 3 differ in tone? i just got a bass back that had to have a new body made for after i cracked it and while not dramatic, the tone definitely changed just with a different body.

I'm glad you're getting along better with the larger body!!

Jimmy will be shipping my new LG5 after BPL in a couple of weeks. Now that you have three I won't feel so bad that I'll have two.:)

Tom I might have said this before but the Heartbreaker looks amazing...I love it!!

+1 ... I have had both, and it's no big deal for me, ergonomically.

It sure resonates like heck and has a BIG sound unamplified. Can't say if thats the slightly bigger body, other changes he has made or just this bass. I can say that it SMOKES! ... :bassist:

They are surprisingly similar actually. The two Classic Supremes (the TTB and CAOJ) and the Classic (Surf Green) have way more in common than they do differences.

If anything (and most surprisingly), the Classic and the sunburst Supreme actually sound more similar to each other than the two CS's do to each other. I think it has more to do with the overall weight than anything else. They are both 9 lbs while the CAOJ is around 9.75 lbs.

The CAOJ has a bit more focus to it while the other two are slightly more open sounding.

Again this is splitting hairs.

Hope that helps.

I'll just chime in to confirm that this is what I found also with my experience with both types...that weight has much more to do with the result than the new changes to body style. Glad you like the new LG Joel, its missed!

I think if I were buying new I'd definitely opt for the nitro finish as that seems like one common variable that has been present in the LG's that I've really liked. I'm basing this of course on a really small sample size as I've played a couple of LG's finished in poly. They were all great but for whatever reason I seem to dig the nitro ones slightly more.

As for the DN board, if you have money to burn, definitely go for it. I'm not sure I'd order it on a new bass. Not because it's not worth it but because I'm kind of a cheapskate... I got mine used so it was a bit of a moot point.

I'm glad I have it on two of mine because I believe it probably does contribute something tonally along the way. It's also quite beautiful -- and, if nothing else, it does add some cool cache to these basses.

Just my .02 -- and probably worth less than that!
