As for the DN board, if you have money to burn, definitely go for it. I'm not sure I'd order it on a new bass. Not because it's not worth it but because I'm kind of a cheapskate... I got mine used so it was a bit of a moot point.

I'm glad I have it on two of mine because I believe it probably does contribute something tonally along the way. It's also quite beautiful -- and, if nothing else, it does add some cool cache to these basses.

Just my .02 -- and probably worth less than that!

+1 ... nothing quite like DN.
Great feel to it too.

Hard to wrap my brain around the fact that all it takes is sanding and some board oil to get that resulting surface/color/feel ...
Almost as black as Ebony, when oiled.

Congrats on the new LG5.

And thanks for the kind words about the Heartbreaker. I guess it's a good sign when the bass holds everyone's attention well enough that they don't notice that the finger ramp has a silhouette of the state of Alaska etched into it. That is how it should be.

Love this bass, Peter. Brings back memories of my first bass, a 1976 Fender Jazz, which I still have to this day. Well, okay, you have an extra string, a preamp, a different bridge, no foam mute, no bridge and bell covers, and yours was hand made by one of the very best in the business and my came off a factory line... but I had blocks and a parchment pickguard too! :hmm:

EDIT: Okay, nevermind. [wink]

Yeah.... I love my LG and kbp's alot.. but they are pretty expensive and i want a good travel bass that i really dont have to worry about... I am asking Jimmy to make me the fattest deepest neck that he can possibly do with his wood blanks... Its an experiment.

+1 Also, a fancy top and all that stuff is not really in keeping with why most decide on a bass from Jimmy.... a bass that feels, sounds (at least more than the vast majority of boutique classic instruments), and looks like an old J or P.

Yeah, at least in my case, if I want a "coffee table" style J bass, Jimmy is not my man. I mean, I know he can do a beautiful job of it, but IMHO his special gift is with making a "perfect example" of a "60's J" or "70's J" (both the early 70's (RA) and the mid/later 70's (LM), with the LM being the most popular, I think).

Is there any word up on what A/C's are going to Bass Day? I'm surreptitiously trying to discover whether my big body KBP5 is done. I know Jimmy wanted to re-do the neck due to a non-functioning truss rod. It's lime-teal with matching headstock and a tortoise guard.

i dont believe its going to BPL... but its crunch time over there so maybe it will get pushed thru last minute...

Plus one on both Ken and Vic's points.

The vintage Fender vibe seems to be Jimmy's sweet spot.
