I've decided to put a pg on mine despite some pretty cool grain, even though its grain is nowhere near as cool as Joel's.
I've read here on TB that someone went the extra step - a cool move, IMO - they actually cut and glued the screw heads to the pickguard holes so that it looks the part when it's on.
Joel, didn't you want black blocks and binding with the original CAOJ? Why not still go with that and natural with NO pickguard... That would look hot!

Yes, I agree that it needs a pick guard to complete the look. To me, that's a big part of the appeal of Jimmy's basses.
I was going to go with black blocks with the CAOJ finish but, with natural, I prefer pear and white binding.

I'm sure it will be... And sorry man, but I'll probably get first crack at it... LOL. But if you're against that, I will respectfully pass.
Just be happy it's coming along as far as it is... My LG neck is finally ready for paint... It's been 2 long years.

So tonight the KBP5 did it's thing in a modern country thing through the Mesa m9->Berg HS210. Had to dial up a good amount of bass to get the roundness appropriate for this setting. and that left it not quite as ass kicking as the run it flat perfection paring of the large format cab.
The bass performed pretty awesome and most appreciated me having a low B string in this setting compared to my trusty 65j.

I stopped by the shop last night to finish off the sanding on my neck... Jimmy will shoot it this weekend! Also, the body was painted a while ago so the paint is starting to shrink back into grain; this one is poly and shows how thin Jimmy sprays his finishes - way cool I think; He was thinking of respraying the clear but I'm thinking of leaving it... Looks a little broken in by now and I also don't want it to "suffocate" the tone.

I think so too. What I told Jimmy was just to hit it with the buffer to clean it up a little... But I'm leaving it up to him to see what he wants to do.
First of all, AWESOME looking bass!!
On the finish, IMHO, I'm don't subscribe too much into a finish choking tone on a bass... especially since I think I recall that Jimmy tries not to layer it on too thick for this reason anyway.
But even given that, I'd leave it as is. I think the way it is gives it more character, and that's cool in my book.

Saw that neck in process when I was there on my visit and it was insane. Cannot wait to see how this comes out, man.
