My KBP4 CS LE loves her Pimp Case.
I'm going to say NO. I owned 2 nitro and two poly ACs. Anyone would be hard pressed to attribute a significant difference in sound if that's even possible to do.
That being said when you add up all the small things that make a bass a 60s nitro, alder, rosewood, low mass bridge, nickel or flat wound etc. on their own they don't stand out but it's doing a lot of little things right that pushes the bass in one direction or another.
So I'd go lacquer if I was doing an LG and poly for an LM. Knowing that on its own isn't make or break.
Agreed.....and between polyurethane and polyester. Plus it's up to the individual to decide if it's significant or not imo.

For all the LGs (20+ basses) with same wood combo I played and came across lately straight from Jimmy Shop.
This is what I hear, Poly always sounds slightly more compressed and harsh on the top end, while the Lacquer always sounds more open overall and the top end is more sparkling.
Of course, you can always eq either finish instruments to your liking and you won't be able to tell the difference in the final mix most of the time, but if you're the player who love to get the best out from your instrument naturally and you tend to play on your own much more often than with a band. You may put the "finish" into consideration.
Also, Poly (Standard) got Satin finished neck while some preferred the Lacquer gloss finish neck on (Classic), so besides the sounding, the neck feeling is another thing left to individual to decide as well.

I compared my lacquer finished KBP CS4 to a poly finished squier student bass and I do prefer my AC 
Ouch....I counted 6 AC basses for sale this morning. It appears the dismal buy/sell/trade market has now spread to the Alleva fold ?

I think it's just indicative of the used market in general. There are a lot of great instruments for sale, all competing in the same space. If something is priced appropriately, it will sell. Much of what's here is, IMO, priced a little high.
One thing I have noticed is that many of the used AC's are priced within sight of new, and it seems like there's a delineation, real or imagined, between NY AC's and LA AC's, with 2007 being some sort of magical year?
I agree with this. I've also noticed that most people who tries to sell their AC make it seems like a special/limited run AC than others. Thus bringing their price higher than normal. I can't blame them though, AC's are quite a treat to play.
Yes, right on, you bring up some excellent points. It seems the new "flavour" in high end Fender copies is the Moolon brand--particularly the P Bass ?

Are we heading to a "crash" on the market resale value of this most noble of instruments ????
I wouldn't be dismayed if a "market correction" is soon in the making ?
Cats won't be able to sell them in a day and get near or same prices they paid for them, likely again ?
Guess my "girl" is staying for a while.

All this talk about selling AC basses and I just got mine a month ago! But let me tell you, this one I'm never letting go. I've never had so much fun on a bass in my entire life!
Watching the AC offers here at TB for years and years now I can say it is not a surprise for me that so much ACs are on the block now. In the recent 2 years 2nd hand prices for AC nearly reached 70-90% of current (!) new prices and exceeded the prices of new instruments from earlier years. So - some players want to gain some benefit. That's OK, That's all and nothing I would really worry about. I own 7 selected ACs and I am still happy about that.
Cmon guys - there are 20+ Foderas on the block and nobody cares. This is regular market move and should not feed doubts on the value of world-class basses like ACs. If the market value decreases by some dollars - so what ... Enjoy the bass - not the market value. ACs are work horses and no collector items.

AC availability is by no means a "market barometer" for the brand. It's an opportunity for more people to try Jimmy's creations and enjoy them!
Each on is an experience! That's part of the fun of the brand.
It's a free market at the end of the day, buyers tend to dictate the price but sellers have the ability to say yes or no.
Very similar to real estate in a way.
There's some rumblings of a global recession for a while now and that means everything is at risk. But what's the risk when you have something great and sought after? Slim to none really.
So it's all smoke and mirrors.
I feel very fortunate to have the ACs I own. They are very inspiring instruments in every way. I won't ever sell them all. A few will be buried with me along with at least one Wal. I can't say that about any other brands!
