Club Alleva-Coppolo (Part 21)

That KBP4 is from the same era as mine... Smaller headstock and Hipshot ultralite tuners. Probably the 1/8 thicker body too.. Mine is so light i wanted to add some mass to the prototype. Mine is July of 2004. Sonic Blue now almost surf green.. with a probably a couple hundred thousand miles of use.

You will know if yours is Nitro if when you get a chip. it just keeps on going.. HA
Mine started with wearing a western Pearl Snap Shirt.. And Im a NYer!

This one balances perfectly and feels like it's in the low to mid 8lb range.

I emailed Jimmy with the serial number of my EUT5 & he gave me the deets. This was a while back and EUT's ARE pretty rare by the sounds. ..so. ...ymmv.
Yours is a Lovely looker btw.

If it's nitro lacquer from the Professor and kept in its case when it's not being played, you can tell by the smell. It has a really great old paint smell (smells a bit like some waxes too) that you can identify once you're smelling for. True story. It helps to tell if (on top of keeping it in a case when not being played) you practice in a small, warm room, where the smell can concentrate a bit. Also, sometimes the nitro exhibits a bit more "sucking" into the grain of the wood too. And there is a bit of a feel for it, but that's a lot harder to describe.

I've even noticed a slight 'gasoline' like effect when you put a bass with nitro up to a light.
Almost mother of pearl like in a way.

Also, look for pitting....nitro tends to shape it's way into the grain.

thanks guys, I'll look for these traits. The bass was shipped in its original Alleva gig bag (with pimped out purple interior I might ad), and removed outside, so no paint smell noticed at the time. It does appear as though some finish "settling" has occurred. Either way, it sounds better than my custom shop P! Cheers!

Forgot to mention--congrats on the new KBP! I have officially never seen one in Sherwood, and I'm a sucker for a matching headstock, so it's ticking a lot of my boxes! One of about two basses I can still covet is a KBP5...

Anyone interested in an Alleva-Coppolo onboard preamp? I got this from Samuel a little while back and it sounded fantastic in a bass I no longer own. Now that I'm down to two AC's and two Sad's, not using anymore. Thought I would offer here first before posting in the classifieds. Not sure the value...Thinking around $225?
