Cool! Always wanted to do that on my RA5 but never tried it. What is the B string like? What type did you put on?

I was just on FB and saw this about a bass Jimmy made for Eric Wilson (of the band Sublime)

Just got some photos from Eric Wilson (of the band Sublime) and his girlfriend Thea of us with Eric's signature Alleva-Coppolo KBP5 bass; taken at our SoCal dealer Bass San Diego. This bass features a maple neck with maple fingerbaord, pearloid dot inlays, Spanish cedar body, Alleva-Coppolo preamp (preamp usually used for our LG,RA&LM's models), laser etched Sublime logos on the front & back of the headstock and most importantly the coolest traditional style tatoo art work from Eric's tattoo artist Jason Fritze. In the begining I was unsure about the preamp in this style of bass but for what Eric needs playing with Sublime I went along with it and to my surprise it works great. I'm glad he talked me into it. As for the art work, well I had feeling it would be cool but this far exceeded my expectations; heck it may even start a new trend which for artists out there would be another way to share their talent as well... One usually sees guitars tatooed on people and not tatoo styled art on guitars. We've done paisley, racing stripes, day-glow bursts and other graphics in the past and we plan on doing more art like this and other types of art as well for sure. It's a great break from the norm and certainly a visual pleasure. There are actually a few projects in the works with some other artists as we speak. This was a fun project to do, working with Eric and Jason was a joy; both fun and extremely nice cats. I am looking forward to do more with them both in the future. I may add some close up of the art work and laser etching of this bass as more photos come in. -jimmy

My band supported Sublime last year and Eric was playing what looked like an LM5. His sound was huge with a massive bottom end. I wish I'd had a chance to hear this one too. Good stuff!!

Yeah, that's his limited LM5 with an Empresswood body! LPB with a matching headstock, white pickups, and gold hardware. Really cool bass, and part of why he wanted a pre in the tattoo bass.

The MAPLE Neck.... The bass is very even sounding .. Yet it has a growl.. It seems to work better with SS strings though.. Im a Nickle guy.. But SS strings on this bass are quite nice

I love all of my AC's but have been playing the KBP the most lately. I was playing my LG the other night and realized something interesting: When jimmy started making the larger offset bodies, I was not a fan. A few years later and now they just seem right to me. The NYC's seem awkwardly small to me now. It's funny how perspectives change over time.

I've always been a fan of the wider bodied fives, but my appreciation developed further the more I used to photograph them. Now other 5-string J's seem just barely too narrow, slightly lop-sided, and a little anemic in the headstock. Jimmy really pays attention to everything and never stops fine-tuning

Exactly. For example, I love another brand of boutique Jazz basses that I've been using for years but their downsized bodies seem odd to me now visually.
