Speaking of tuning, anyone else have issues tuning or intonating their E string? My peterson has trouble with the open E on this bass for some reason -- two sets of strings (dr and d'addario). very odd.

So what *do* y'all do for a case for your A-C? I've got to say that the gig bag my LG-5 came in is less than luxurious. I'm actually carrying it around in my Sadowsky ultra-gig bag, but it's not a great fit: yeah, the headstock presses against the side more than I'd like. I guess a custom case...what's the best you fellow A-C fans have come up with?

I use one of the older Low End leather bags, a Levy's bag in leather, or a Lakland hardcase that came with my 55-94.

inCase. All my stuff goes in inCase. I consider them to be the best in lightweight yet extremely durable and well padded "gig bags". The AC 5 strings do fit, too.
Yeah, the A-C gig bag is kind of a toy. I use one of the original style in-Case bags. I don't dig the new ones at all.
Actually, the Sadowsky has more room inside than the In-Case slim if you take the extra padding out of the bottom. That's what it's designed for... removing the extra padding when you are using the case for a full size J bass like the A-C or the Sadowsky UV. I find the Sadowsky bag lighter and more 'carry friendly' than the new in-Case bag with that goofy 'alpine strap system'.

I have a Mooradian that I like a lot for my LG5. I'm looking in to getting an Incase as well. I'd love to try 'em out.
I love thi inCase stuff a lot mainly because it's somewhat rigid, has superior protection, but still carries like a bag.
It is a little surprising in this day and age where most high-end luthiers provide worthy cases or gig bags with their custom basses, that such a fine and pricey instrument as an AC comes in a less-than-heavy-duty/well padded gig bag.
This is not meant as a slam or indictment on Jimmy or AC at all.
I am just a bit surprised since I have yet to read where any AC owner brags about, or even use the gig bag their AC came in. Things that make you go hmmm?
I imagine most AC buyers would pony up an extra $100-$150 for a worthy gig bag from Jimmy if one were offered?
Or maybe a better AC gig bag is offered as an option that I am not aware of?

That DUB double bag is not a good thing. Besides the bag weighing a bunch, the design is kind of funky. It only has a single zipper, and you have to lay the bag flat and take the top bass out to get to the bottom bass. Not good, although the alpine strap system that is so cumbersome and overdesigned on the new Slim Bag is actually very good and a positive on the double bag, due to the huge weight of that bag combined with two basses.
The best double bag I've experienced is the double bag used by Fodera. Fantastic combination of light weight, thick padding (not as much protection as the in-Case or Sadowsky Porta bag, but much more than a typical bag like the Mooradian), and it has double zippered, separate compartments for each bass. Very nice.
I can't remember who the OEM is for that bag, but it's a good one. I think TBer Wilbyman knows. GREAT double bag.
Edit: I like the original In-Case Slim Bag so much that I found a new one in the box that was left over inventory from before they changed the design, and have it stashed away in case the one I use ever wears out! The new one is a quality bag also, but the change in design made it less preferred for me versus the Sadowsky Portabag, which is pretty close in design to the original Slim Bag. All nice stuff.
I don't think there is another option. It's not a cheap bag by any means, just a very standard bag, similar to the bags used by Lakland for the Skyline line of instruments. The simple, no frills bag kind of fits that 'working bassists old school vibe'.

As a comparison, F Bass and Nordstrand "Nordy" Gig bags are really nice. The Nordy Gig bag in particular is very plushly padded, with nice big pockets and good straps. There was a charge for it which I gladly paid.
I'd love to see Jimmy source a nicely padded bag for his basses. Maybe even embroider the AC logo or name on it.
I had a Lakland Skyline gig bag and it was well built, but it was not padded sufficiently to instill any kind of confidence. A bag of that caliber is insufficient for gigging with a bass that is worth $3k or higher. IMHO/IME/YMMV
+1 It is a little disconcerting to receive an A-C in that bag stuck in a cardboard box without any other padding, etc. I haven't heard of any problems, but I was glad mine arrived without any problems
Speaking of the Mooridian bags, does anyone have any experience with their double bag?
I haven't used one, but have seen one. Nice padding (I believe you can order extra thick padding), double zippers (i.e., separate compartments for each bass), and BIG external pockets. Also, they have an extra long model perfect for these long J Bass type instruments.
I use their small amp bags for my amps, and the quality is top notch.
If you search for their site, the spelling is Mooradian.
