Cool, There's an LM 5 on ebay right now, he has it posted
as an LG 5, if anyone is looking...
That looks a bit worn (big finish chips) and feature-light for that price. You can get a brand new one for pretty much the same money WITH the preamp that one doesn't have. THE BA bridge is a slight upgrade, but doesn't make up for it IMHO.

If I'm not mistaken, this is the one that used to be at Brian's shop (Low End). It has the current pre, minus the passive tone option. But I definitely see your point on price - I think Brian sold it for $2500 or so (in better condition)... :hiding:

Thanks, but it's really a team effort in this thread.........lots of useful info being shared by all........I had to make a tough decision to get the RA, but in no way do I regret it (that STILL doesen't mean that I don't miss that 535 sometimes.....:bawl:).....Glad to see you're back around and keep us posted on the future build........

Haha hey Adrian the 535 is still kickin with me . But you know what... since then (when I got the mtd from you) the club alleva thread has sure gotten huge!

All this talk about Alleva's has got my gas going for one too and I've been just secretly reading up on the thread without replying until now haha. What caught my attention was your post about the differences in the Alleva models, which I was confused about for the longest time too.

I do have to ask you though, which Alleva do you prefer (if you actually have a preference for one over the other) using at church? My friend got to play "turnupthebass"s A-C a couple months back, and ever since then, he's been bugging me saying that I have to get an Alleva .

The protec is an decent bag, affording a bit more protection than say...the Lakland/Levis bag or G&L bag.
They can be had from The Perfect Bass-among others-for about $99 street...

Hey Gang ... Good News.
Jimmy is checking out the Contego Bass Case from Pro-Tec.
I helped deliver some of the basses for Bass Player Live today and most were in these cases.

Great news Jason. Did you see my Ice Blue RA-5?
Just wonering if Jimmy got it finished and it will be at BPL.
My bass should be shipping next week. Do you know if I
could purchase one of the Pro-Tec cases Jimmy has?
I would feel much better about shipping my AC via UPS
across the country in the Pro-Tec case.
Thanks, Dan

Hey Dan,

I didn't see what was in the bags. I met Jimmy at S.I.R. and just helped him carry them in. Also, as i mentioned before, he had another bass or two to assemble last night, so one of those may have been yours. Don't quote me, but I believe that the pro-tec are the new official AC bag, and from my understanding they will be included from now on. You'll have to get the final word from Jimmy on Monday, but I'm guessing that your bass will show up with one.

I'm all about a nice warm and round tone so the LG-5 gets the call most of the time.......it can pretty much do anything I need it to do in the Jazz bass realm..........the RA is great when I'm feeling a little slap happy, but again, the LG can do that well enough for it to be the one that goes to the gig 90-95% of the time............keep that 535 clean, Kim.....I may come back for it someday........

Nice, I think I'll be due for a 5 string J-bass within the next year so hopefully I'll get the chance to visit the shop and try out a few basses if Jimmy's cool with it.

The 535 is being very well taken care of :bassist: haha, I think I baby it a bit too much though :smug:.

If I were to choose just based on what you've said about the model differences and your experience with your LG and RA at church, I would probably want to go with the LG as well. Jazz basses seem to sit perfectly in the type of praise style our church does which is on the lines of Chris Tomlin, Hillsongs, etc [not saying my MTD and Roscoe don't do it for me :)]
