Club Alleva Coppolo (Part IV)

Dude, you like the heavy gauge strings, huh? :hiding:

Yes, this is my third AC. :) Yes, I am an idiot. :hmm: However, I have found something very special in Jimmy's basses, and this one I justify by convincing myself that I need a fretless. :eyebrow: I actually DO play a lot of fretless (see there I go justifying :rollno:). So, LG5 fretless, ebony fingerboard, satin finish on the neck, off-white finish of some description on the body (it's not Olympic White, and I'm pretty sure it's not nitro). It's coming with round wounds, I suspect but those will come off in favour of tape wound flats pretty quickly.

esoxhntr, it looks amazing!! Hopefully mine turns out very close to that - It'll be the same but with binding.

But im going to regret not paying it all off when the Aussie dollar was strong. Thanks to this stock market dive.. its going to be a nice gift of almost $2000 extra for the bass if it gets finished soon!!
Ive definately put off an order for a second Coppolo while the dollar is so ****!

Anyone knows if a 5 string chrome pickup cover will fit to any Alleva 5 stringer, I am kinda used to resting my thumb and would really work for me but I know the pups are longer than fender, I am thinking on the cover for a Marcus Miller.

Thanks

I was told a while ago that they would not work and that the only covers that were compatible were one that Jimmy was getting made on a limited status (there are pics I think WAY back in Part One that Kirk had where Paul Turner and a few others had "bikini" covers)......I asked Jimmy when my LG was still in production and he said that he didn't have plans on getting any more made anytime soon.......hopefully he'll chime in and say that that will soon change.......

Ask Ken, he had one on his gold LM-5. Maybe he'd want to part with his, I don't think he uses it. He traded pickguards to one that doesn't have the pickup cover screw holes.
Ken can correct if I don't recall correctly, but I don't think he got a cover. I think his bass simply had a pickguard with the holes drilled for one, and he knew he'd never want one, so he swapped pickguards.

Still love my AC LM5. Here is a pick before it had a mint green Pickguard on it. It still is bright with the PG but it does not show it in the picture.

That's pretty much exactly the same thing as what I tried out, except for the pickguard anyway. Your second picture in particular is a very good representation of the real color too. For some reason very hard to get a digital camera to capture correctly... even with some careful "white balance guidance" when snapping. Odd.

ACE you are doing a great job with the AC threads. Have not been around here lately but my bass I enjoy like the first day i got it. So now you have 2. With the economy the way it is right now Im holding off on a second but its not out of sight. Hoping for a nice LG or a P.

So true. In the light it just shines. I look at some pictures of it on stage and it just jumps out. I am so happy with the color. By the way how did it work out for you?

I loved it, but decided the LG was a better fit for me, so that's what I have on order right now. I'll have to wait until '09 for my first AC, but I'm sure it'll be worth it. :)

Thanks, but it's really a team effort in this thread.........lots of useful info being shared by all........I had to make a tough decision to get the RA, but in no way do I regret it (that STILL doesen't mean that I don't miss that 535 sometimes.....:bawl:).....Glad to see you're back around and keep us posted on the future build........
