Can't say I'm too thrilled with my organization. On the bright side, at least this bass took a few less e-mails than the Rami 6, but the string logistics added a little challenge for the 7.
If I might pick y'alls collective minds, after the fanned 7, I might get a 6er with TI Jazz flats. It'll probably be a parallel chamber or standard shape with a few chambers.
I don't have any fretli with MM pickups, so that might be a logical choice. Anyone tried that Delano MM hybrid pickup and/or their piezo?
Next (probably 6 months after I get the fretless 7 that Cliff is building now), I'm hoping to get pale moon everything for the top, fingerboard, knobs, pickup covers, and ramp. If I can't get that and go with burled maple for the top, any suggestions for a nice, but attractive fingerboard?

This is VERY interesting.
I was JUST talking to Curt "yesterday" (Friday) and also "today" (Saturday) at the NAMM show. He was telling me about making custom short scale strings for someone, so I'm guessing that was you. BTW, I took home a set of his 5's in both Nickel and Steel. Never played his strings before. Any thoughts you wanna' share on them, maybe compared to familiar ground like DR LoRiders?
Yep, that would be me. I had an interest because they can make custom scale lengths AND they make a .020w and .025w. I've yet to find a company that can do both of these options, including Fodera.
I haven't played Curt's strings yet, to be honest. Cliff and some Bordwellians have the need for 32" scale low B strings, so I think/hope it will work out for all of us.
Needless to say, when I figure out if my choice of gauges is ideal for the 7, I'll be ordering enough strings for a nuclear winter.
Also try contacting Trip Wamsley. He's got a 32" scale 8 string Alembic (not a 4 string with ocataves... a full 8 "single" string ERB).

Argh.Are you certain that is a 32" scale that Trip owns? Alembic claims it is a 34" scale: [Invalid or Expired Link Removed]. Perhaps he owns (or has owned) more than one 8-string Alembic? Cool bass either way!
Yes, it's a 32". I've spoken to Trip personally about that bass. He even offered to let me play it at the NAMM show (it was right after he first got it, too!!).

Thanks for pointing out the fact that Trip's 8-stringer is in fact a 32" scale....both now and over 6 years ago! It's very cool to find out that that bass is actually a medium scale. This just further encourages me to head in the 33" to 32" direction.
When it comes to building a 32" scale bass, I'm under the impression that Cliff really knows how to deliver the goods! If at all possible, I'll be having Cliff build me one in the near future.
I was at rehearsal yesterday with a new band and everyone was blown away by the tone, punch, and variability on my 32" Big McNeely. Love that bass!!!

Man, Cliff does such fine work. Look at the way he aligned the walnut flaming to follow the general flow of the headstock. SO nice.
I believe the top one is spade2you's (Sam's). Phenomenal fir top/cap on that one!!
