I was thinking of replacing my big singles with something , not sure yet but they tend to seem a little dark regardless of what rig I use , my CB is a mahogany fretless with a ebony board , love the bass but just want to brighten it up a bit , I am going to ask Cliff for his recommendation ,
yeah, actually yours made me finally decide on the bubinga top and drop the mac ebony idea. was a tough decision, though.
Bubinga is a mighty nice wood. There are so many beautiful specimens out there...makes it hard on a guy. I have a second bass on order with Cliff - and it will be a while before I have to make up my mind - I have really have no set idea on what I want to do for wood choices.

ash body core
figured koa on top
black walnut+flamed maple centerpiece on the back
maple neck, dark rosewood board...

that sounds like a good idea , with the ash they might be fine , they are great pick ups
It's not "stabilized" as that word has been hi-jacked and has very little definition of the process. I use the term "acrylized" to define my boards. The tech term is wood polymer composite (WPC) If anyone would like more info on the acrylic infusion just ask...cheers...Larry
usually i'd prefer everything maple on fretboards but this time i'd go with rosewood for the look.

I like the look of the rosewood on this bass but I prefer the sound of maple.
Ask Cliff how much wood impacts the tone of those pickups as the amount that tonewoods change the tone varies among the different pickups.
Maple and walnut can sometimes work together or really clash. Perhaps you could get some walnut binding to break things up a bit. The acrylized maple tends to be darker, which could work a little better.

Your photoshop mock-ups are legendary around these parts. Is there any way I could get you to do a rendering of the bass I have on order? It's a 4-string Ball bass with the following top and a Pau Ferro fretboard. Cocobolo pickup covers and ramp between the jazz pickups. The headstock is also mac ebony. I would be forever grateful.
