I believe mine is his 1st 32" scale 7, but he has done the previous 32" scale fretless 6 strings and a few 5s. It would have been nice to try one out beforehand, but that wasn't going to happen around here. To think, a few years back, I was huge into 35" scale basses only!

I think all 3 of these are 32" 6ers.

Cliff and I are still working on details, but I'm loosely basing my tonal goals on Jean Baudin's gigantic KL, but slightly fewer strings since I'm very small. Using custom Nordstrand hum-cancelling J style pickups and probably an Aguilar pre. I'd really like to get a giant slab of pale moon ebony for the top, fingerboard, etc, but that's proving to be a tad difficult at the moment.

If you're referring to Jean's "Joust" bass, I'm thinking that Jean uses Seymour Duncan pickups.

He does. The idea is loosely based on the idea, but the Nordstrands should have a similar vibe.

I like Duncan guitar pickups, but I've had bad experiences ordering custom Duncans. My Rob Allens have them and they sound good, but they severely delayed the basses from completion. I'm pretty sure this is the reason he's not going to use their pickups any more.

Regardless, I've had wonderful experiences with Nordstrand and want something with a similar sound and hum-cancelling.

I have heard really great things about the Nordstrands, and I know that Cliff speaks very well of them. Are you going with the SE or the SV Nordstrand Js?

OH MY GOODNESS!!

It's killing me not to hear the plugged in tone, so I may have to "disappear" from work for a bit to do some "offsite research" at a local music store.

The workmanship is completely impeccable. Consistent with someone who has the passion for precision Cliff has. BTW, he's also into precision metal work as well, having significant experience as a machinist. As a lot of folks on this thread also already know, he's also a great guy, a consummate professional, and a pleasure to work with.

The neck profile is sublime, the weight is perfect, and the body is nicely thin and very comfy. I can't wait to get this thing on the gig tonight.

No way cell phone pics will do this thing justice, so I'll have to snap a few quick ones later while I'm at home packing for the gig.

In the mean time, here's a quick teaser I got from Cliff...
