I am the proud new owner of a CB Custom fanned-fret, single-cut, 5 string bass. I just received it from Bass NW, so I do not know a tremendous amount about it. I know it has a camphor burl top, Nordy big singles and an OBP-3. Does anyone know if I can get a build sheet from Cliff? It may not be that important, but i would like to know everything that went into building her. This is truly my dream bass.

I love the woods on that bass. That top just looks killer!
Email Cliff, and he should give you the story and the specs behind that bass. How do you like that bridge?

Nice score! Your CB is very nice and Cliff is often on here so I'm sure he will chime in with the details on this beauty. I know it's one of only a handful of fanned fret single cuts I've ever seen on Cliff's site. If you're looking for information quicker I would PM him and I'm sure you'll get a response from him soon.

Cliff put up some updates yesterday on the current builds, there are some pretty sweet basses in this new batch.

Yeah, yeah I have an email out to him and I got some info from the original owner. I tossed the DRs on her last night and did a full intonation (which is a pain on a fanned fret :() and set up, you know really dialed it for what I like and I am blown away. Predominately I am a jazz player, but this has a big enough body to accommodate me and the neck is unreal, especially past the 12th fret. So, this one has found a home for a very long time, if not permanent, but you know how TB goes... So I will take a number, who knows I may order another CB...

Well, my man basses are my Lulls and a Jazz that I built myself and it is definitely heavier than them, but I would not say it is overly heavy. I mean it is a much bigger bass than I originally expected, but I like big basses because I feel like I will break something that is too small. I will get a weight for you later.

More importantly than the weight is the tone, I can get so many different sounds out of this thing it is ridiculous. This is very good because I play many different styles. Slap sounds great, tap sounds great, fingerstyle, harmonics, well you get the point. That being said, it never really sounds "too modern" if you know what I mean. I have picked up many exotic basses that have too much of a modern tone and they always drive me back to jazz style basses.

The bridge is a little strange to me, and intonation was a pain, but I have it dialed in now and it is perfect. I guess the multi scale makes even the slightest intonation problem more apparent. I also have an older Dingwall AB (with Barts) and I did an A-B of it to the CB and there is absolutely no contest. I wish that I could have 4 of these basses...:help:

34" scale Rami fretted 6. Modern neck, thin profile. Ash wings, butternut core. Gallery grade walnut top, acrylized fingerboard similar to the one pictured on the Rami for sale. Nordstrand Dual Coil pickups with acrylized pickup covers matching the fingerboard, series/parallel/split for each pickup, Audere 4 band and 3 Z-modes, passive tone knob. Seperate battery compartment due to the excessive amount of knobs n' switches...might as well have the 18v as an extra option. 1/2 ramp.

Happens occasionally when Cliff drinks.

Seriously, the scale ranges from 34" (G) to 37" (B) much like a grand piano. The longer scale and compensated fretboard provide a more articulate "speaking voice" in the lower registers. The concept has been around for a few decades and is most prominently associated with the Canadian-made Dingwall line. Sorry, not trying to steal Cliff's thunder. Takes about 15" to re-adapt to the layout but well worth the effort.

Bass sounds killer!
Where does this butternut wood come from? I have never heard of it until I read about it being used on Cliff's site.
