I havent noticed anyone using one, but I'd be shocked if there wasnt one lurking here somewhere.
Mine has a Bart NMTB 3.4. The switchable mids control goes down from 800 hz to 250hz which I just LOVE. The Aggie goes from 800hz to 400. Not quite as deep.
When I boost the 250 hz, its like BOOM! Very nice boost in volume! Really lets me cut through when I need it.
Hi Guys, I am new to this thread, buy I live in Central Florida and went by Tom's shop yesterday. He is a super nice guy and spent a lot of time with me helping me to figure out all my options for having him build me a bass. I saw and played several of his basses and all I can say is WOW! I have had a number of really nice high end basses and Tom's stuff is right up there with all of them. I am specing out a bass for Tom to build for me. Warthumb I saw your bass under construction yesterday and the pictures do not do it justice. That walnut body is just KILLER! It is going to be one beautiful bass!
At the end of the first Clement forum I was mentioning how i'm rethinking my use of Aggie OBP3s.
I have them installed in all 3 of my Clements and two other basses. While I love the sound, I'm challenged by its lack of subtlety. Turn the knob a tiny bit and the bass is suddenly shaking the ground.
Might be cool for a high energy player or soloist but I'm in need of more refined, usable control.
A whole bunch of folks recommended I try the Nordstrand preamp (btw. its Tom's standard offering). Great sound and more usuable control range.
I just had a Nordy 3-band pre installed in my Hanewinckel, and I'd agree. Even with the bass control boosted all the way, it's still very usable IMO. I find it extremely easy to get a good modern Slap tone. I cut 400Hz all the way and slightly boost the Bass and Treble, and

Not sure, but it may depend on how much it cost for him to purchase it. I don't think Tom up charges on wood from what it cost him to purchase, unless it's some crazy burl ( like I almost got) where he's doing a lot more grain filling than he wood normally do. But i would ask him!
I've been talking (emailling) Tom and he reccomended the Nordy too. It's not that I don't like the idea of the Nord, but I've read and liked the ballsy reveiws of the Aguilar. BUT is a Clement suited to that? Or is a Clement a bit more subtle and would work better with a reined in pre?
Theres one of the Club Members using no pre at all, which to me, says that Toms basses are transparent and well rounded in the sonic department. So I ask myself do I really want to slap a b*****d strength pre on that?

My fretless is very sensitive to my touch and technique and I've gathered that most people's Clements are the same. So tone can be controlled in many respects by the players hands. The Aggie will most likely impart more of it's own character than say an Audere or Glockenklang...
