Hi all, hi Tom (Clement),

Quick question Tom, would you finish your basses in color (burst or transparant)? and yet still showing off the wood grain.
Sorry if this question had been discussed already, just want to know.

What's the big deal?
Looks like just another beauteous beyond belief super cool super bass built by Master "C" himself dripping with GAS infecting visions of "I want a bass like that" fever casting art and luscious luthiery crying out to be played and singing the sounds of the universe. :hiding: :help:

Different body style description. Can someone draw this up?
1) Played in sitting position.
2) Cradled between legs.
3) Neck rests upon left shoulder (if right handed).
4) Arms chicken spread which keeps forearms, wrists and hands in a more healthful straightened position while holding/playing this bass instrument. :hmm:

Get a cello :-) Or string an electric cello with bass strings.

Tom uses either oil finishes or clear poly satin finishes. Both are excellently done. Most of us get these fancy tops so we wouldn't want to alter the color :)

There are two Clement instruments with different finishes, one that Tom did for me as a test (turned out nice, but almost killed our wizard, so let's not challenge good fortune again) and one that was lacquered by it's owner (he probably got the job done at a professional lacquer workshop).

That's the status on colored Clements so far. Seeing how this requires a whole lot of equipment I am assuming Tom is gonna keep offering clear finishes only also in the (near) future.

Correct me if I'm wrong, Tom! :-):hiding:

Looked up cello - yes, something like that. Not as big, cumbersome, no endpin. Maybe I should expand my instrument knowledge. Beginning to understand how much I don't know. And I thought I was so stinking smart. Bought me a book on music theory and geuss I will get another or use the net to study up on instruments of music and what in the world is going on outside of BASS GUITAR. How was I to know there are OTHER instruments to make music with?

*lol* it's already been thought out, Sir! :)
I have an Ergo Electrical Cello in my house, together with an Ergo electrical upright bass. There are lots of electric cello makes out there, some are actually pretty nice. they have also covered the uprightish bass market with 34" scale instruments. On a cello, it's a little bit shorter than 34", and on an upright bass it's 42" and upwards. So really a lot of variations out there. :-) However, most of these instruments have a much more curved fingerboard than the bass guitar, simple because it's more ergonomical to curve it. Makes it easier to finger.

The link to the Omnibass above would probably interest you, ad would the Kydd Big, which is a similar design, just cheaper simpler. They are a take on the upright bass segment, but with a slightly shorter scale length.

Which of course brings me over to the Zeta Crossover, which was actually a bass meant to bridge the gap between the electric upright and the electric bass guitar.

WHICH in turn brings me back to Mr. Tom Clement... who has a very nice bass in his posession, I believe it's Clement #003.... which is a variation of the Zeta Crossover bass. It should be possible to mount on a stand and play the way you are suggesting. :)
