Cocobolo is highly toxic, yes. I have a bass that nearly killed it's builder during the sanding process. So Tom, if you do work with cocobolo, as beautiful as it is.... please... wear that mask?! :D

I've seen a few basses with a Macassar Ebony top, and they are utterly sexy. it's high on the list of potential tops for my next build (did I say that???). :D If I go with a macassar ebony top, though, it needs to be a maple fingerboard. I just love that combo. Light fingerboard and dark tops.... or vice versa... :)

Gorgous!

Thanks for posting that mate, and I will agree #94 has got a great neck.

Yeah-the cocobolo FB is a beauty. When I get home tonight I'll see if I can find the first pic Tom sent me when he found it. I know I have most of the progress pics saved.

Were you thinking about cocobolo for a body top or for the FB?

...and your wood choice for the body?

Yup - that works!!

The only thing that I don't dig with light necks and gold hardware - is Black Pickups! But without crafting a set of custom covers, not sure what else is available!

I think some companies offer Ivory (colour) covers, but that just seems a bit too much like the beige computers of the 80's / 90's.

It's not too bad on a dark top like this, but if you have light maple, the black covers just stick out like a sore thumb

Not sure mate, you have given me food for thought now with the different hardware options, ie black chrome or gold ?

At this moment in time Tom has not said no :D

Black hardware is definitely my favorite. My 2 customs (Clement and Carvin) both have all black hardware and if I ever get the chance (and the $$:hiding:) to order another, it'll be the same.

I hear what you're saying - and probably up until the time I laid eyes on one of Tom's walnut wonders, i would have agreed, 100%!

But there is something about the darkness of walnut (or cocobolo) that looks nice with Gold - but I'm still 90% in agreement!

I have to say, Mr Walkers ebony idea sounds pretty hot though. Hmmmm - methinks meneeds more $$$'s

My take on it is that with black hardware everything coordinates with the pickups because most of the time-those're black already.
