Getting even better as it gets older?

Not been around lately due to work/family calls. But got to playing my beautiful Clement "Hollow Jon" this weekend: As the bass ages, it gets even better...the hollowbody just rings.

My hunch is hollow and heavily chambered instruments with piezos are more a bit more dependent on variances in the wood. What do you think?

I notice in your sig line that you also have a Robin Allen and a Veillette. I'd like to know how the Clem compares tonally to those instruments (and of course which models of RA and Veillette you are comparing it to). You don't happen to have any clips available, do you?

I remember seeing this bass in Tom's gallery a while back and making a mental note to someday have Tom make a sister for it. I'm selling a fretted Clem at the moment, just because I have too many fretted instruments. But I could probably sell one of my other (non-Clem) fretless babies to fund a build like this. Depends on how acoustic/upright it gets. Pretty close I'm thinking.

As per my Rob Allen and Veillette basses. I'm fortunate to essentially have all of them. As well as some lovely Rick Turner and John Shuker basses. I love piezo basses (I also love cheap P-basses but that's another post).

The Clement "Hollow Jon" sounds and feels wonderful. Tons of musical tone, beautiful neck and fingerboard feel and 6.5 pounds! The use of the hipshot piezo metal bridge provides different sound palette than the solid acoustic guitar-style wood bridge used on my Rob Allens and Veillette's. They all have piezo's, but are all unique basses.

But using tapewound strings and the 3 band eq, I'm able to dial in the "woody" upright tone associated with Rob Allen as well as a range of more electric sounds. The real joy of the Clement Piezo is how dynamic and responsive it is; you get great variation with small right hand movement.

The build quality of Tom's instruments far exceeds the cost (shhh....don't tell Tom). If you want a great Piezo bass, completely customized to your spec, don't hesitate to check out the Clement.

If I get some time I'll try to repost some clips... not likely too soon.
