Is this Club Darkstar worthy?

WOOOW!!!!

Very cool, Henry! That's the look, alright!

It's great to have a community of craftsmen working on these. I don't know a thing about metalworking, so I have to rely on others in this regard.

It's been a long time coming, but I finally got around to recording some clips of this bass today (someone in the AVRI thread asked for them, but I figured I'd post them here as well since it is a Dagstar).

I was plugged into my Sunn 200s head, running into an Ampeg b25 cab loaded with Altec 418s. The mic (a Shure Unidyne A Model 580SB) was about 4" from the speaker and running into an M-Audio Mobile Pre into Garageband (bloody Protools keeps giving me errors...). No EQ, just straight as it came through the recording setup.

These next two are demonstrations of my favorite settings. I have the bridge volume rolled off a bit, and both tones wide open in the first clip. I'm also really banging on the strings to get more attack, so pardon some of the fret noise. In the second clip, I have the neck tone rolled back to around 1/3rd to 1/2 of its travel.

Being in a dorm room, I can't really run the Sunn at it's sweet spot, I'm running it on about 2, so some of the girth of the Dagstar isn't really coming through. On say, 4-5, it just sounds massive. The bass is currently wearing a set of week old Roto Swing 66s, and I'm actually contemplating going back to whatever the stock Fender roundwounds were, I'm not digging the Rotos nearly as much as I do on my Precision.Sorry for the rotten playing, I was just sort of doing this on the fly to give some recorded evidence of how this bass sounds.

Here's my first pressing of the polished ring using a temporary tool. It's not been cleaned up as I wanted to test the basic shape and form before I made a permanent, hard tool set using this as a pattern.

I've set it on the bobbin pattern just to show how it'll look. Very excited now

Wow!
Nice try Henry!

What's all the hub-bub about Dark Stars?
Didn't I make enough?
I made more DSs than Hagstrom did Bi-Sonics I'm sure.
I can still make more.
I have the technology....and parts.

@Henry.
I'm flattered(?)...at your attempt.
I dropped the ball (for awhile) and I take it you felt moved enough to pick it up.
PM me. I'd be honored to tell you how I do it in whatever detail you want.
I sure had a lot of people help me including Rick Turner and Jason Lollar.
They were never stingy with their knowledge with me. They taught me a lot...in real time, as problems came up.
There was even a "pickup winder" forum going for awhile. That was informative and fun for sure.
Can you imagine internet flame-wars amongst pickup makers?
Not exactly an enlightened breed....

I was one of his victims...he even claimed to have shipped it a 2nd time...never a tracking #, just his word & that aint much to me...For what it's worth, I have 3 basses with Darkstars. By the way, I never bought Darkstars directly from him, for any of those basses...

I'm a bit confused...
Help me out here. Do I owe you something?
You did order pickups directly from me. Right?
If so PM me.
