I flipped it but this sounds better to me, so I put it back

I just go by where I want the poles and I like the look with the wider part at the bottom. I notice most production basses with them have them flipped.

I liked the look too, the wires actually belong this way on this pickup. When you flip it, the slack in the wires is almost tight, no need to stress the wires. All I know is sounds great. I bought the bass for the pickup, best parts P ever!!!

That's right - I always rout the wires so they exit at where they come out of the pu. No sense in having the wire cross the pu to get to the exit hole.

I loved how it looked and sounded and played it out quite a bit, but I'm ten years older now and the gigs haven't gotten shorter and weight is an issue.

I did save the unique triangular string tree from the T-40 neck though and it will be used on the new bass.

That's cool! (love the switch plate!) So being a Gibson, is the pot 500k? And what cap did you use? I've been going 500k pots in basses with DS/BS's and on my latest I have a 2-way mini-toggle to flip between .022 and .047, and although the difference is subtle, it offers a noticeable tone option.

It’s a 1 Megohm volume control, ‘cause that’s what I had handy. And no tone control; there just isn’t room in the cavity, unless I do stacked volume/tone, and then I can’t use speed knobs....

I like a lot of zing in my tone, and I can change the amount of zing to a certain extent with technique, so it works for me.

Just an amazing pickup, tight bottom end, bright top end.
Any suggestions for good mods? High pass? Mid cut higher then Guilds Baritone that cuts out the bottom end?

Why bother to do the sort of mods that give you the same results as a slight tweak of the tone settings on your amp?

hey all, i'm a recent recipient of a Dark Star pup, in my Serek MW2.

between the Guild Bisonic (N) and and Dark Star (b), i'm like a kid in a candy shop!
the DS is so articulate and hefty, and pairs very will with the Guild, IMO.
