Here's my latest Dark Star powered bass, a 1968 EB-3. Right now it has a Bartolini stereo buffer, but I'm thinking of returning to a passive setup. It's amazing how extended the high frequencies are, a little more string noise than I need, so hopefully 250k pots will tame that a bit. The bass certainly surprises people who expect the standard EB-3 mud. It also gets a good slap tone, even with flats.

The only issue I'm having with this bass is that I want to remove the 4 way switch and some idiot it glued it on with epoxy or something and the knob is indestructible.

Anyone here replace a fender humbucker (squier telebass, pawnshop mustang) with a darkstar/bisonic? I’m looking for a fender humbucker for an upcoming build.

Pls PM if you feel like selling

It’s been a while for this thread.

I just picked up a Novak BS-DS from the Classifieds (thanks, you know who you are!), which got me mulling over my options for which bass to mount it in, which reminded me of this thread, and I don’t think I posted any pics of this one I did a couple of years ago:

I’m thinking something Rickenbackerish for this new one...

Oh jeez that’s cool!!!

Yes - that is pretty cool. I love the Darkstar/Bi-Sonic single both Novak and Guild (depending on spacing) - will look forward to your build thread related to getting the Novak.

Wow - I don't recall ever seeing this one. Very cool! Your mention of something Ric-like reminded me of a certain walnut Ric with a carved top wearing a pair of DarkStars. (I don't have the image anymore :rollno: )

I think that most basses would profit from DS/BS singles... but then, I'm a bit biased of late. :)

I've been out of the club for a while as my Decade'ish frankenbass...
My new T-40/Wal/Decade'ish Frankenbass
... was parted out last year. Sounded great but just too heavy.

However, I kept the pickups and bridge and Tim at Lowdown bass is making me a double darkstar telebass.

Got some pics of the rough body and I'll get them up later. It's going to be a beauty and allot lighter than the bass it's replacing.

I remember that bass - as Chef said back then "wicked!" Always like what you did there. I hear you about heavy basses though :rollno: - will look forward to the lighter reincarnation.
