Dear all, the relatively short wait was totally worth it, here are some photos of my brand new BNF6. The red color sort of defines the way this beast sounds, between total peaceful tenderness and massive-demolition-wall-of sound.

I am very happy, I commend George's work, beautiful bass. I am adapting to its size as we speak (it will take another hour to do so), I get more attached every second I spend on it, I can't put this instrument down.

Great to be (if you still have room for one more) part of this club.

hey guys, here's a clip my band, YOSHA, live at the Independence Week Concert here in the Philippines. BN4 short scale running flat through an Aguilar TH500 (flat) with a GS212 cab and an Aguilar filter twin.

What a GREAT clip, Karel. I hope I get to meet you and your wife in person someday; I want a photo with you guys.

TIGHT band! Love every bit of it.

I like how your wife dances and enjoys the music as you guys go to it. Her digging it definitely communicates high dig factor to the crowd.

I especially loved the section at about 2:07 where you guys pedal an A for awhile break out into a chord progression again and solo. I can't believe how the energy out of the solos is even higher! Very cool.

The only possible improvement to that sound would be a long bass solo, but hey, I'm biased (or so they say).

@Tom7 - hehe thanks, Tom...and i sincerely hope to meet you too someday "lol" on the "bass solo" suggestion...i honestly wouldn't know what to do on that tune...it already feels like the bassline is a solo already. Hehe but hey who knows it might come to that someday.

By the way, HAPPY FATHER'S DAY to you and to everyone else who fits the bill! This is a 1st for me and i'm enjoying every moment of it CHEERS to us and our Dads!

Thank you all for your comments! After a few days I just kept confirming what a good decision was to move forward ordering this bass. I have two other 6 string basses, the one I used the most until this one is a Yamaha TRB-6ii bass, which I really like and got me into bass playing. The Yamaha likes being played in a very "muscular" way, it reacts well to hard, strong playing... once I got this bass, it requires a fraction, a one hundredth of the energy required to sound, and its sustain is practically infinite... makes me think of the sound of the bass notes in a piano. I am adjusting my playing, particularly with my right hand to make the strings vibrate alongside the fretboard, cleaning up my motion, and I can foresee multiple possibilities around speed and dynamics that they are opening up. Totally recommended bass.

For those FBass players around, one question: The instrument came with FBass strings, and I really dig the sound. I had played FBasses with old strings in the past, and they really sounded good to me. On the other hand, I have been considering trying flatwound strings on this guy, perhaps giving up some sustain/brightness but gaining some smoothness on the playing. Have any of you tried this on a BNFx bass? Any consequences (damaging the ebony in any way) I should take into consideration?

Ah!, regarding SKB Boxes I saw in previous posts, I use the 2SKB-1649W SKB ATA Staff Golf Travel Case, where I can carry 2 instruments (inside their own gig bags), the stands, cables, and a couple of pedals. I traveled with it, and it will resist a tornado, highly recommended.

I had two Yamaha 6 string basses, the Patitucci signature bass -- one fretless -- that I eventually sold because I knew that as much as I liked them, I wouldn't be going back to them either.

I have fretless AC6s, and if you are itching to try flats on your BN6F, I'd recommend Thomastik Infeld Jazz flats. They are expensive but they last forever, and they sound really great -- very round sounding too.

As for ATA cases, what a great idea.

There is a big chunk of foam in the upper section that would keep the instrument in place inside the case. If you are just gigging with it, the fBass Gig bag inside this will be all you need. If you send it by plane I would put some protective foam or clothing around to be sure the bass does not move. If it is still floppy, just put another piece of foam in the bottom and the bass will go super comfortable, I do not think you will need it.

I would suggest that, if possible, you just bring your bass to a Golf shop and try the instrument inside, and see how it feels. I carry a bass and a Warr guitar on it, and they go perfectly safe. The case costed me about 290$, but seems to be a reasonable price for the peace of mind it brings and also compared to actual instrument cases that go way above that price.

Here is an interesting video by Bob Taylor (co-founder of Taylor Guitars) that everyone who enjoys basses -- particularly boutique basses made from fancy woods -- should probably see.

It really makes me think about the ebony in my basses especially.

You know looking at this picture and where George routed out for the pickups, in reality this is NOT a neck thru as much as it is a set neck design. Would you guys not agreee, look at the neck pickup pocket, if the routing left any of the original neck behind you would see the racing stripes in the pocket but you don't. That would say that the wood seen at the bottom of the pickup pocket is really the ash tone block which was kinda grafted to the 5 piece neck. Just thinking out loud here....!

Here is what I mean by grafted, see the thickness of the section that will meet the body Vs the section that is just the neck. So what I'm saying is the routing of the neck pickup pocket sliced thru the entire 5 piece neck ending it at the start of that pickup pocket much like a standard bolt on bass. The only two differences I see are the grafting to the tone block and the fact that there are no screws (bolts) as seen in a bolt on. This feels much like my Stambaugh 6 string set neck to me. That Stammy by the way will be for sale once this F-Bass arrives, don't hold your breath. For those of you that remember that Stammy, it's no longer the same at all, major upgrades were done, I call it the "Fodera Killer"

Upgrade the controls to custom matching knobs with multiple woods and upgrade the pre to a Fodera Mike Pope 3 band active/pasive....WOW

I'm just emphasizing again that this video is probably worth of your guys' attention; particularly if you have an ebony finger board or top.

It's probably a good idea for those of us with boutique basses to be aware of the bigger picture too.
