I'm just emphasizing again that this video is probably worth of your guys' attention; particularly if you have an ebony finger board or top.

It's probably a good idea for those of us with boutique basses to be aware of the bigger picture too.

Wow, very interesting. Personally I love the way multi color ebony looks. Seeing that alot on Fbass fingerboards. Probably is'nt much tonal difference between the 2, just cosmetic.

5 of my Fbasses have ebony finger boards.

My AC6-Classic has a perfectly black finger board.

My AC6-Signature has a perfectly black finger board except for 2 smudge looking spots under the E and B strings, and I think they look cool. They look like I've worn down those areas of the finger board with my obsessive playing and practicing (which I wish were true).

My AC6LE Replica has gorgeous streaks in a mostly black finger board.

My BN6 likewise has gorgeous streaks in its black board.

My fretted, neck-through AC6-signature looks black until you get up very close where you can see hints of brown if the light is right.

I absolutely LOVE these variations!

To think that some players might be insisting on (and driving the market to) only pure black ebony is sad. It truly is.

I posted this link in the Fodera club thread as well and Jason DeSalvo, the managing partner of Fodera, said he supports Bob Taylor (in this video) 100%.

I think it is important for us bassists to make it clear how we feel about the ebony in our basses, lest we mislead our luthiers to do something none of us really want.

For any of you that remember and was into the custom shape of my BN6... George made another one! The only difference is it's a standard body size, not a big body like mine... This one also comes with the new standard BN5 (60's) pickup positions, as mine was a special request that became standard.

It's at Bass San Diego, enjoy!

Yes, the upper horn is thicker... Notice the rear angle pic, the edge of the body is not straight leading to the treble side horn. So on the bass side, the cutaway connects to the body at 16th fret as opposed to the 17th.

Well I'm a new owner of a BNF 6, that I just bought yesterday the 22nd of June 2012, I only have the pictures from the Fbass site, as I'm awaiting the delivery of her next week sometime. George is finalizing the preparations on her before sending her. Can't wait to get my fingers on her and just have fun with this beautiful bass. I'll post more pictures of her when she gets here. There must be something good about it.

My guess would be that it increases the real estate in the neck pocket and helps with neck/body coupling, like my Studio:

Yeah, it's probably the same one that was on the site. It was a slightly used (3 months) bass that the guy who got it brand new, didn't really want, so he traded this one and one of his other F's to upgrade to an AC Signature bass. I've been in touch with him also, and he told me that I was going to love it also, and that he had tried this one, and the other one that they have on the site, and that this one sounded better to his ears. I can't wait to get it next week, and try her out.!!!!
