Congrats! I got to spend some time with this bass last NAMM... It made me believe that I can play fretless and a 6 string at that!

Brief change of topic if I may.

The topic up for discussion is TUNERS. I repeat, TUNERS. :)

Ok, so Fbass use Gotohs I believe...can anyone tell me which model they are? Gotoh has a new product called resolite tuners that I may want to try out on my light ash Fbass, as it's just a tad neck heavy....

The tuners that are on my new bass are the following: Gotoh, GB70, mini with 20:1 Ratio
I hope that this helps you in your search!! I just went on the Fbass site and looked at what tuners I had. They seem to be what they use on all the their basses...:bassist:

Great! I thought they were the GB70 but wasn't 100% on that. :)

They make a newer light version of the very same machine that is about 2/3 the weight, GB350. I'm definitely going to be giving the people in Hamilton a call...

Yes, NAMM is definitely fun and something I do not take for granted. It's exciting to see what George will bring next year.
Well, a fretless 6 is a really nice thought but I just don't know how much use I'll have for one at this time. Though it doesn't stop me from thinking about it almost daily, haha. At least I have my BN6!

Yeah.... that's true enough. I have a Yamaha TRB 6P II as my fretted bass, and love it also, because I got it on Ebay for a good price, but each have their own differences and both are very good. I wouldn't mind getting another F sometime down the line, but for my immediate needs, I have more than enough. Happy bassing to you also...

Things are moving faster now that he has the neck through construction behind him. He says it's now off to the spray booth and deliver may be 4-5 weeks away.

My baby as well seems to be coming along well. This is my first Fbass and I've never owned or played one before but looking forward to getting it. Maybe mine and yours will be finished around the same time.

I think it is more often referred to as the core and wings.

This is just an observation and not expertise by any stretch of the imagination, but I've observed that while many (if not most) basses have bodies made from a block of wood, (ash, alder, basswood, etc.), many basses (even bolt ons) are constructed with several pieces of wood.

For instance, my John Pattituci signature Yamaha basses were sandwiched with many types of wood, front to back, and according to their marketing materials they had sonic reasons for the construction method. However, when they cut angles through the bass, it exposes the layers of wood and it looks pretty cool too.

Other basses, again bolt ons, I've seen with bodies in 3 pieces, 5-pieces and I think 7-piece, although the 5- and 7-piece bodies sometimes just have a strip of a certain wood. Also, I've seen bodies made of varying woods and bodies of the same, say 3 pieces of ash.

Yeah, you're right when it comes to the "wings & core".... So you have two Yamaha JP basses. Wow!!! That's neat, I have something similar a TRB 6P II which is like the cousin to the JP models....

One of them was fretted and the other fretless with white lines. I loved the "twins" a lot -- they were pretty much the only basses I played for a long time -- but when I got my BN6 and AC6, they became "practice basses" I'd use only for practice so I could keep the strings on my gigging basses fresh.

Eventually I sold them very cheaply to someone who assured me that he adored these basses, but then he turned around and sold them on after a month or so for a profit. I felt used, but my heart was in the right place and that's the important thing.
