Club Fbass (Part 10!)

Well I got my 'Willie Weeks Studio 5' back from George last week (It was getting a Fbass preamp installed and a few other minor repairs).

It was cool before, now it is a monster. Alder body/maple top. Punchy! The whole thing vibrates and is crazy responsive to right hand placement.

Can I join the Fbass club?

Wow, Yohan, so it's just going to sit for 2 weeks waiting to ship? :rollno:

I can see why you passed on the ramp. The wide pickup covers on the BNs make it pretty easy to do without one. I don't have one on my BN5 (but do on my BN6).

My thoughts exactly on the ramp... After playing a friend's BN5 I figured the wide pickup covers might be good enough.

Yes, it will sit there waiting, BUT, patience pays... My friend was supposed to take delivery for us but decided to go out of the country around that time.... Sooooo.... I get to babysit his BN5 for almost the entire month of May!

Here's my latest acquisition to add to the F stables.

Oh wow; I love that top!

I had my first ever Fbass dream last night by the way.

In the dream I was walking through the Eagle River Walmart in the area where they have plastic bins, and saw on a shelf 8 gorgeous BN5s. They were stuffed into two plastic bins and the sign under them said they were for sale for $999.

I was incredulous, and examined them over super carefully, but in every way they appeared to be authentic, brand new BN5s.

Donvan happened by while I was looking them over and I showed him the basses. He said George would never sell his basses at Walmart, and he'd be losing his shirt if he tried to sell BN5s for $999.

Together we decided that these were stolen, and somehow they were stashed in the plastic bin section of Walmart. We decided the thieves put the $999 price tag under them as a deterrent, thinking no one would want such a high ticket item and the basses would still be there when they returned for them.

I suggested we call George from my cell phone, but Donovan went nuts. He loaded 5 of them into his shopping cart, including the 2 I liked best and kind of wanted. He said that either Walmart would have to say they aren't theirs and call the police and get the basses turned over to them, or they'd have to sell them to him for $999, in which case he was going to make a killing selling them on again.

As Donovan and his 5 basses disappeared down the aisle, I stopped a Walmart employee and told them I didn't think the basses belonged there. She said, "You are right; they belong in electronics."

She grabbed the 3 basses and I followed her to electronics where she placed them with some extremely cheap guitars in cardboard boxes with little amps in the box too.

I called my wife, hoping to get a green light for buying 3 BN5s, but she wouldn't pick up.

I left the Walmart but in the parking lot thought I ought to try again so I called her again. When she didn't pick up I decided to go back and buy them anyway and explain it all later (feeling sure she would understand).

When I went back though, the basses were gone. I found the employee who had moved them, and she acted kind of funny like she didn't know where the basses had gone, causing me to believe she was one of those responsible for them being in the Walmart to begin with.

As I drove away, I wondered if Donovan would sell me the blue or the white BN5 at a great price, given that I led him to them.

I didn't know what I'd do with 2 BN5s, but I thought I'd get by somehow.

Anyway, weird dream. I told my wife and she looked like she didn't like the idea that I'd spend $3,000 on basses without her solid consent.

Valuable information. :hmm:

@YCBass - pare, kay Miko ba yung bass? :)

Yes pare kay Miko.

And to translate for our non-Filipino F bass bros... The BN5 that I will be babysitting is Miko Espanol's.

His specs are, to the best I can remember:
Satin Brownburst w/ no pore fill
1-piece Maple neck w/ Asian Ebony board
34" scale
Finger ramp (I believe it's also Ebony to match the board)

Should be another hot one!

What a wonderful, lusty dream! :D I'm not sure I would pass the morality test on this - I would have likely bought all of them, being the FBass fiend that I am. :D

What makes it a "Willie Weeks"?

When I took the bass apart to ship to George, written in pencil was 'Willie Weeks' on the neck and the neck pocket. It was under clear-coat and so I asked George about it and he confirmed that it was indeed made for him. Where it has been since leaving Mr. Weeks I don't know.

On my shipping invoice George called it the 'Willie Weeks' Studio 5 so I thought it was cool to call it that.

It really is a special instrument so much so that I sent it to George to get it back to their specs (I actually build and work on my own basses, but being this instrument was special I wanted the creators to work on it…..glad I did).

thanks for the club #!

Very cool, does it have different specs?

In the dream I had a distinct sense that you got the big picture and was merely acting before I did.

The items were for sale in a Walmart... everything else about them was our own speculation.
