Second, I own 3 ACs, and two BNs. In the photo below, my ACs are on the couch and the two BNs are on each end of the basses on the floor.

As you can see, each of my 3 ACs has a different bridge. The AC6 Classic (far right) has a floating bridge that helps it have a VERY upright bass tone. [Invalid or Expired Link Removed] (so the tone is a bit more Ron Carter than John Patitucci). I got this bass without magnetic pickups on purpose so that it would be 100% focused on doing one thing well: acoustic bass tone.

I love the acoustic tone and organic decay of a wooden bridge, it is a perfect fit for the fretless ebony finger board and acoustic chambers in these basses.

The AC6 in the middle on the couch has an ebony bridge with piezos as well. It does a great acoustic tone as well (if you put Thomastik Infeld Jazz flats on her), but it is still flexible enough to do a very very nice Jaco.

The difference between the two styles of ebony bridge is somewhat subtle. However, the difference between the ebony and metal bridges is quite stark.

The AC6 on the left is the fretted AC6 and it has a metal bridge. Harmonics are livelier, the attack (as Donovan said) is crisper, the sustain is much longer, and the character of the bass is more electric sounding in tone, even though the bass has piezos and acoustic chambers.

I can't tell you which bridge you should put on your bass because I'm unclear what its tonal goals are, so I just provided information that (hopefully) helps you know what the differences are as executed on my basses.

As for the 36" scale length, that's an interesting spec... very Anthony Jackson Presentation.

Just a few things to get back to you with: I too am a hugh AJ fan...and i agree the 36" could become unmanageable after a long gig...gotta think this one through more.
I do not slap...all fingerstyle...I try to pull off a Rocco if i need a little more percussion.

The other question;, with the metal bridge ..is it possible to load strings from top of metal bridge or is it strictly through body only...I presently play Circle K strings with a 0.118"B - 0.025"C..they dont want through body stringing...but i am not above changing strings to FBass brand...actually find the exposed core intriguing!!

Also, With having the neck pickup in the AC (Donovans pic/ couch pic)...do you find it redundant or not necesary that your bridge and piezo can cover everything for you or is this still part of a huge tonal picture?

also, my background is primarily in a jazz setting, but i also sit in a cover band..hey you gotta do what you gotta do!!LOL

Which beautiful 36 inch did you acquire from Donovan . I wanna hear the acquisition stories . That's an incredible collection you have. Please just clarify .

Wait. So your saying f bass can make a 36 inch scale bass? I bought my f bass back in 2002 at jimmy alleva coppolla's shop in nyc. I have the Original head stock .I remember asking jimmy if George would make a 36 inch and jimmy was adamant that would not do it. Now he will make 36 inches ?

I can't speak for George or for Fbass -- I'm just a bassist like the rest of us, so I'm not saying any of that.

Randyt has apparently been talking to George about a 36" scale length bass. I imagine George is open to alternative scale length basses, given that one of his latest masterpieces is a 32" scale length bass for Karel.

As for Jimmy being adamant that George wouldn't do a 36 inch scale length bass, I don't know what to say. Maybe at that time , George wouldn't. Maybe Jimmy meant that George wouldn't do them through a dealer; very special orders like that usually have to go direct through Santa's workshop. I don't know.

You can contact them directly to ask about it though. Their email address is [email protected]. There phone number is 905-522-1582.

George has done some awfully specialized basses in the past...

According to Fbass owners' gallery this BN8 belongs to Yoshiaki Fukuju, doesn't it? It must be a monster :)
If I'm not mistaken I saw something like 7-string Fbass, but it may be my illusion :D

I remember there was a release of an f bass studio and another line ,I think back in the early 2003 , but just don't remember what distinguished the bass as a " studio" line. Maybe Big Don can clarify that one. I vaguely remember jimmy Coppola being the only seller of f basses in NYC and selling the different versions of f basses.

Sorry I must have hit an eyebrow botton? I think maybe the fbass studio is a shorter scale bass. I think it was like mtd had a line of moon/ eclipse basses . I think micheal Tobias only made like 50 of those basses. It was a short lived line of those basses. I could be wrong.
