Apologies. #219 it is!

Tom...
Quick Question for ya Couzin~!

as you are the only FBass member that I can remember that has an AC6 with a Hipshot A bridge...by chance do you know the length of the string from end of ball (absolute end) to Nut (tuner side) Im looking for the measurement as you would string through body only.
Thanks Tom

Randy

thanks
I'm sorry for the delay on this; I cannot tell you how crazy busy I have been these last two weeks with very urgent stuff. It never seems to let up.

I am meaning to change the strings on this bass, which means measuring the string is no problem when I do it...

But until I do, I snapped a few photos that might be helpful. I am totally willing to do more so just ask. And when I get a moment, I'll change strings and get you the definitive numbers.

So starting on the head side of the nut...

[Invalid or Expired Link Removed]

And going to the bridge...

[Invalid or Expired Link Removed]

You can see that the scale length is indeed 34.5 inches. And from the saddle to where the string goes through the body...

[Invalid or Expired Link Removed]

While more string will be required to string through the body, the other trick part is from the nut to the peg I think.

[Invalid or Expired Link Removed]

I'm sorry; I know this isn't what you want, but until I can make that time I hope it will tide you over.

I would guess that your alternate strings would need to be about 46 inches long to string through the body and wrap around the peg of the A string.

Or 45 inches.

Tom
Excellent!!!!!
Thank you very much for the pics and information...
truly apreciated....

**so when you get a chance to take the string off...before you remove string...take a permanent marker and make a mark head side of Nut before you remove string....that would be great..thats the measurement Im looking for ....thanks...your the best!

UPDATE**...Tom I wont need anymore info...as your pics say it all...the exposed core length of the Fbass strings are 2.5"...so it makes the replacement strings a required minimum of 37"..The possible strings Im looking at are 37 1/4"

RandyT

Okay, David... See what you started?

I Pm'd him for some bridge swap advice, he was very helpful. He said just get a drill and eye-ball it, im thinking about putting the bridge as close to the bridge pickup as i can for that Jaco sound. I've found some strings on ebay that "came straight off the bass of doom at Jaco's funeral". Only $400! What a deal!

:hiding:

Wow. Let me just say this forum is amazing. I picked up my first F bass about a month back. I have read everything and I feel like I know the members all too well. Let me just say Thank You, the candid conversation is what gives a forum its legitimacy. I have to admit, as an outsider, I'm amazed at the sheer volume of Tom7s posts. Definitely a hands on moderator. I believe that's the understatement of the century. :-). That said, the involvement of the members is what makes a successful forum and I'm thoroughly impressed with the participation. Seriously, these threads go back years. I was a Lakland guy for a long time, still am, and I didn't buy in to the Sadowsky hype until #1, I played one and #2 I saw Roger's commitment to his product and customers. I've seen the same thing from George and it's amazing. His involvement here shows that. Seeing the contributions of people like Tom and Donovan makes me feel like the purchase of an F bass links you to a community that is so much deeper than the normal consumer/producer relationship. Thank you all. I've got a studio on the way but here's my bn4 so gimme a number. And some lovin
