Man, I love that guy's tone and playing. My VF can sound just like that, but I certainly can't. :D

GREAT playing. That MBClassic300 REALLY sounds good... really warm but still articulate and punchy. Wow. The bass sounds great too, like a good J bass favoring the bridge pickup and digging in at the bridge. Nice.

How does everyone find the string spacing of th BN5, especially at the nut? I played a few and it seems a bit cramped down there.
Good question.

The first time I played my BN5, I had huge flashbacks to my 77 Jazz bass. The neck REALLY felt like it.

Like Puff, I'm fond of the narrow spacing at the nut. It feels like it offsets to some degree the wide spacing of the frets back there.

Here's another from him:

Interesting. This looks like a fretted bass, doesn't it? Blended with Jacos in this clip though, it doesn't sound like it.

BTW, when you said here is another from "him," I thought you were talking about the slap player of Snarky Puppy with the BN5.

This is Edmond with a VF5 alder and rosewood.

Oh no I posted a different video of the VF5 guy the other day. Then
someone posted a video of the BN5 guy after me. Sorry about the mix
up.

At least on my speakers I heard way more of the original bass track than the F Bass. The playing appeared to be good though.
Yeah, I thought that too so I plugged in my Bose headphones... and realized I was mistaken. That's Edmond's bass dominating the mix there, it just sounds so much like Jaco and he plays it so in sync with him.

Right at 3:45 when Edmond strays from the original bass a bit for a few seconds is when you can really tell.

Hi all,

Was wondering if any of you could share your experience if you play a BN5 with Rosewood fingerboard. What is the difference for you compared to a Maple fret board BN5. I realised that this topic has been discussed over n over again but I would like to know what are your experience instead of the specific tone difference which George has told a million if not a billion times to us.. haha:D

Thanks a million!

Sorry, but I don't have any experience with a rosewood fingerboard on a BN5. :(

Er... do you really mean rosewood or macassar ebony?

I assume the latter, in fact I wrote my reply very very late at night and got a little confused myself :o

I was talking about macassar ebony, so apologies if I shot off on the wrong track.

Macassar ebony is harder, so it will be brighter sounding than maple. That's the general consensus, and I think it holds true in this case.

since I have had a macassar ebony and a maple to compare, here is my contribution:

macassar ebony , medium-brighter ( 2 KHz ) , yes , but compressed, hard/sharp sounding

maple , organic/deeper and higher , and "alive" not compressed.

rosewood : sweet & round

Hi all,

just curious, my BN6 is thé most incredible bass i ever played on ... however, there is just one little issue i'd like to see different, the stringspacing.

Is there anybody who can tell me if F-bass has an option for replacing the bridge or maybe just the saddles, in order to narrow down the stringspacing to 17 mm?
And of course if possible ... what shall it cost?

Thanks!
Harry.
