Yeah, that's my only concern about this too. #1 pretty much means the person who started the club, and gives out the numbers.

I REALLY appreciated this post. In fact, my wife happened to walk just now so I read it to her... to try to justify the time I spend here as being useful to someone, otherwise she's convinced this place is bad for me and only results in more gear purchases. :) I don't think she bought it though. Sigh.

In retrospect, I wonder if I shouldn't have organized this club in a manner where former owners keep their numbers, and I just put after their names (former owner).

Anyway, thanks again for the very kind words, but truthfully I feel like I am getting a LOT more from this club than I am contributing to it.

Thanks, my friend. You are right though, I'm not really "aspiring" to the number at all, I just see logic in it in that it is how all the other clubs are run.

But I truly do like the idea of the editor in chief of bass gear magazine having that "Club Fbass #1" in his signature.

And I like the idea of you getting #1, seeing as you are doing so much for Fbass both here and on Youtube.

But more than anything, I'd like it to be George's, provided we can definitely avoid the appearance of him starting his own adulation club.

I thought the same thing. I hope you guys will weigh in with frank and HONEST opinions on this bass. I love it, but I'm also very excited about it and may not be looking at it objectively enough. I'm kind of biased by my own enthusiasm for Fbasses, including this very nice and unique bass. I've been tracking it, in fact, as it was being built.

You know what? I think I'm just kidding myself. I DO want to hear your honest opinions of this bass, but I also think a part of me doesn't care WHAT you guys think, I love this bass and I'm finagling a way to get it! :D

Seriously though, check out this audio[Invalid or Expired Link Removed] of Edmond showing off this bass's slap tone.

I have no idea how he could do this, especially when you look at how narrow the spacing is between the finger board and the neck pick up, but this is one nice looking and sounding bass, and I've grown so crazy about Fbasses that I just don't know how I can pass up the opportunity to have this one too. :hyper:

This bass was originally built for Edmond Gilmore, who you will recognize from this clip.

It's my understanding Edmond lives in Israel and that this bass was damaged in shipping.

Edmond didn't want the bass with the crack repaired, so he had another one built, only this time he had a cocobolo top and a 4 piece neck.

Ironically, Edmond and I have been in touch about this bass via email ever since I saw photos of it being built posted way back in Club Fbass part 1. When it arrived, he sent me photos of it in emails.

For a few days I tried to talk my wife into let me get one built, only with less frets so I could get 3 fingers in there for slapping, but we couldn't justify the expenditure.

When it popped up as available on fbass.com, I almost swooned. :)

Mitch (Basses55) did me a HUGE favor and went and played the bass and we exchanged several emails about it as he shared his impressions. He left me convinced that I needed to find a way to get this bass.

Then I learned Donovan was thinking about it too. We decided to let him get it from George so he can enjoy it a bit, then I'd get it from Donovan.

In other words, this bass and I go way back and I'm thrilled to be this close to finally bringing it home!

My injured thumb makes getting a high end 6 string bass right now somewhat scary, but I'm moving forward as if everything will be fine and I'm probably selling my Fodera Yin Yang to make room for this acquisition.

I LOVE that bass (Yin Yang) and am reluctant to part with it, but on the other hand, I am first and foremost a 6 string player, and have only gigged the 4 string Yin Yang once.

I know this fretted AC6 would get PLENTY of playing time!

George warranties the repair, and I'm sure it will be great for the life of the bass. I had a shop teacher in 6th grade who proved to us repairs are stronger than the wood itself. He broke a board, repaired it, then when it was ready, had us try to break the board again at the crack. We couldn't do it; we only broke the wood around the crack. The wood gave before the repair did.

Edmond's second version of the bass has a cocobolo top and a 4 piece neck.

Frankly, I wouldn't want the top -- especially on a 6 string bass. I prefer this because it is so close to my fretless AC6:

The cocobolo top probably sounds great too, but I'm not sure what compression or other affects it would have too, you know? To me, the configuration of this bass is a more known quantity, I love the tone of this wood combination and I have a lot of confidence in it.

Oh no way yours definitely has the better top. I'm not a big fan of cocobolo anyways.
I prefer the look of macassar ebony over the look of cocobolo. Redwood is one of the
craziest looking woods I ever seen next to lace wood and some burls. I think the
redwood looks really good on Fbasses though.
