Don't want to interupt the mockups (they look awesome by the way) but I wanted to announce the newest addition to the family, an antique white BN5 just purchased from fellow T/B member Footie (very cool guy). Should be arriving next week sometime.

Sorry for the interuption, now back to the show.:hyper: Peace
Great snag!
I was sorely tempted.
Congrats!
Looking forward to some more pics when you get her.

This roster update adds a BN5 to JEOP054's AC5.

I LOVE how the ebony board and the white body offset each other. It looks great.

When it arrives, you'll have to give us your review and impressions.

Former Fbass owners:
Freddy-G, Adrian Garcia, Yvon, dean82, smperry, Ryan_L, rodneyat, 123eranoid, Gordon of Eden, choad42, black.rose1402, blen dem, AC5, BN4, BN5, ?, George_Furlanet, Jonno1707 - BN4, Quadzilla - BN5, VF5, BN5,

You can put me on that list of former users with this lovely ambrosia BN4 I had a few years ago. I sold it with plans on getting something more custom but, well, the finances were redirected. You know the deal.
My hope is to get the scratch together to order a BN5 with a custom neck carve. Here's the BN4:

You guys are right, we need to talk about #1.

Quadzilla founded the club originally, but in reality all he did was say, "Here's the club, I'm #1" and never bothered to keep the numbers or the club going. I thought Fbass deserved more than that, so I went through and reorganized it, and assigned numbers, and created links so people could tour everyone else's Fbasses, and naturally I assigned Quadzilla #1.

However, I've been seeing in posts he's made elsewhere that he's sold off his Fbasses. I PM'd him about it and he acknowledged he sold his BN4, and when I asked him if he had any other Fbasses still, he never answered back.

Therefore, it appears that he's vacated his spot, but I hate to bump him from #1 without knowing for sure. Among other things, if I have to restore him back to #1, that would cascade and affect everyone else.

As for what to do with cherished spot #1...

My favorite idea is to assign that to George Furlanetto. Not only is he a Gold Supporting Member of Talkbass.com, but as we all know, he himself frequently comes to the club to answer questions with an authority and credibility no one else here has. Truly he is a member of this club, and #1 is rightfully his. At first I hesitated to do this, thinking it might look weird to make him his own #1 fan, then I woke up and realized he is not Miley Cyrus and this is not a fan club. We are more like alcoholics anonymous. :-) Here we gather to advise and support each other, and guide those coming here contemplating a significant gear investment.

Other ideas for the number 1 include:

a) Give it to Tom. He's next in line and certainly influential and it woud be GREAT for the club to have in his signature: "Fbass Club #1."

b) Give it to Donovan. No other bass seller does anywhere NEAR as much to evangelize Fbasses as Donovan.

c) Give it to Mitch. Mitch is instrumental (pun intended) in R&D of Fbasses. Mitch is a very well respected player with monster chops and humble heart, and is a TREMENDOUS help to many of us as we consider Fbass purchases.

d) Give it to me. Actually, I don't care, I love having #7, but then again I'm not sure if everyone, particularly the new guys, know that in THIS club, it is the #7 guy who is doing the roster updates. Taking #1 would help with that, but frankly I'd rather see George, Donovan, Tom or Mitch get it.

Anyone want to weigh in with an opinion on this one?

I would just give it to Mr. Furlanetto. We all got our numbers for the times we joined.
It should stay that way. Just because your higher on the list does make you a more worthy
Fbass club member it just means you joined or found the club earlier.

BTW thanks for the explanation Tom7.

Wow, that's a great looking BN4. I bet it hurt to let that one go.

Thanks for letting us know; I've put you on the former owners list, and I am VERY much looking forward to putting you on the numbered list someday soon.

Cheers!

I've had my BN5 for three years now. I just put new Fbass strings on her last night and I am still floored at how it plays and sounds. All of these pictures in this thread just reinforce my opinion that F basses are easily among the the very finest of what is available out there right now. And there is a considerable number of very, very fine basses these days!

The antique white BN5, the all black VF, the sunburst VF's, ebony BN5, ambrosia BN4, AC5's,... just... wow! Gorgeous! Just looks alone they are in a league of their own! (IMO of course). Add to that the playability, comfort and especially the sound..., I'm just blown away.

I am totally satisfied with my BN5 and at the same time I want all of your basses too! :D

Well, I'm off to play a fairly loud bar gig right now on my F bass! :hyper::hyper::hyper:

:bassist:

Well said, my friend, and I know just what you mean.

I'm in the process of unloading some very fine basses so I can acquire more Fbasses in fact.

gnasher1993, here's your Marcus Milleresque VF4:

[Invalid or Expired Link Removed]

I think that pickguard works really well on a Fbass shaped body.
Speaking of Marcus Miller, I've noticed he rarely plays his modified 1977 Fender Jazz bass anymore these days. Instead, I always see him on a stock Fender Marcus signature bass.

Also, I see he is back with SWR (now owned by Fender), and his preamp is one of the things I'm thinking of putting on my Christmas list for my wife (to get me that is!).

In other words, Marcus is closer to Fender now than he ever has been, which is too bad. I bet if George built that bass and sent it to Marcus, he'd wish he was free enough to get it, gig it and perhaps endorse it.

The playability of the VF series is seriously nice, especially when compared to the Fender specs.

MM has played a couple Fbasses over the years. He had a BN5 for a while I think he had a
VF5 too. When I was at the Fbass shop I talk to George about it, he regretfully said, "yeah he
use to play a BN5. I guess he didn't like it". I think Fender has their hand up MM's @$$ at
this point. I'm not saying he doesn't like their products. I'm just saying it's probably making
his life a lot easier to stay with them.

Yeah, I highly doubt he disliked his BN5, since they say he even used it on one of his albums.

In addition to the money he no doubt makes from his endorsement deal with Fender, Marcus is HIGHLY associated with Fender, and has been from the 70s.

Seriously, doesn't it just seem right for Marcus to have both his hat, and his Fender with him on stage?

That's not to say, though, that he couldn't have done well to make a switch on basses.

At the very least, Marcus should use Fbasses for FRETLESS work.
