+1 Really nice, and a truly unique tone. It actually reminds me just a touch of my Rob Allen fretted Mouse... very organic.

Does this bass have an ebony fretboard. I hear what sounds like that 'ebony ping' to the attack, but warmer and woodier than most ebony board instruments. Is this a model with a wooden bridge?

Edit: Ah, I read your entire post and now see the picture (strange things happening with posting pictures on this site over the last couple of weeks!). It's the piezo bridge pickup 'ping' I'm hearing (maybe combined with an ebony board... can't tell from the picture... nice! That's also probably why I hear a bit of the Rob Allen fretted in that clip. Nice!

You have excellent ears, Ken. Yes, it is an ebony finger board you hear.

It has piezos, yes, but it also has acoustic chambers and goes places my BN6 cannot.

And with its 2 magnetic pickups, neck through construction and metal bridge, it has a voice distinct from its fretless sister as well. This was without a doubt the luckiest bass acquisition I've ever had, and I feel like I've had a few.

I'm excited about this bass.

By the way, for Christmas my wife got me a firewire audio recording interface, a Shure SM7B mic, and an sE Electronics reflection filter, and told me that for Christmas next year, she wants a CD that has all the kids singing and playing on it.

The kids think the project is a cool idea and are looking forward to it, but my 12 year old daughter is especially excited about the challenge. She is a huge Hannah Montana fan, and thinks I should, like Miley Cirus's dad on the TV show, write songs for her to sing... and that's why I came up with the chord progression to begin with.

When we record it for the family CD, do you guys think I should use an acoustic guitar? Or keep it with the fretted AC6?

Seriously, I've been visiting fretspot.com from time to time looking for photos, only to find twitter updates.

Not to sound too selfish, and I'm sure the gravity of renaming a Thai restaurant will settle on me at some point...

But the shallow bassist in me just wants to see (and hear if possible) pretty fbasses!

Nope, this is the sunburst VF5 that just came in. If you look at the pics, you can see where there is a fine crack in the fretboard. It's really hard to see though...

Oh. I just saw Invalid Link Removed, and I'm actually interested in both VF5s, not that I could get either of them right now.

This one in particular has me curious. It has an ash body and a maple finger board, but the pickups are in the 60s positions... which is what I understand is the case with BN5s, except that BN5s are 34.5 inches in scale length, and of course the VF5s use George's single coil pickups whereas the BN5s use the stacked soapbars for noise canceling.

I bet this VF5 has a really great tone and it's killing me that I can't pick it up.
