Club Fbass (thread 13)

Was just thinking about how I've bought and sold more basses than I care to admit or remember. Lots of very nice high end stuff, some customs, lots with sentimental value. It must say something that the two I regret selling/miss the most are my old BN6 and AC5. F basses sure are special, that is all. carry on. :)

Interesting, I love your tone... AND I love my FBass....

Considering a future build, am I correct in assuming you use an Alleva-Coppolo Pickup set in your VF? Is the Bridge Humcancelling or a true AC Single?

Thanks and ya you are right.
I have a single coil in the bridge position. The Aggies sound great too....they both have some characteristics that the other doesn’t.

I agree , the brown burst is beautiful Goran, congrats again. You are too good a player not to let us hear some sound clips though.....:)

@ARMunro , I think I’ve described that somewhere before...maybe not TB, but here is my impression...

The Aggies are bigger sounding and maybe a bit more powerful, I like their heft and they still have clarity and sound towards a vintage side. The humcancelling J to me is one the closest, if not the closest, to sounding like a true single coil in a humcancelling J. Their hum J is also fuller sounding . The AC pup has a transparency ...clear and very vintage-y, has enough power and bottom but not as much or big...by a small amount. Either is good imo, I had a bit of trouble deciding and still in certain contexts I’d put the Aggies back in. So both have enough clarity, power, output, bottom end , and vintage vibe...just depends which side of the spectrum your individual taste will lead you to.

Yeah I've likely asked you that before.. Blame it on my poor working memory :S

Ok Fbassers I hope this is not out of line but I would appreciate some feedback.
I sold my Fender jazz to help finance my BN5. I've always had a Fender jazz in my arsenal and to be honest a miss having one.
I'm just days away from ordering a VF5 jazz but the Fender American Elite has been brought to my attention. With the blocks and bindings in the Fender, rear out and master volume it comes in at less than half the price of the VF. Does anyone here still use their Fender although they have an Fbass? I think my VF5 PJ will be my main bass but for my jazz should I go Fbass or Fender considering the substantial price difference? Sorry for the long post but there's a lot of wisdom in this club I'd like to tap in to. Thanks

Go FBass... You'll get a more comfortable, faster bass with a better preamp.

I owned lots of Boutique basses.. So let me just leave you with this... I sold my Fodera Standard for my FBass VF.. I got a better playing bass with a ton more useable tones... If you're looking for a legit Fender Tone with modern playability get the F Bass with True Singles.. Truly not a Sadowsky with their Singles... Those still have the Sadowsky tone imprint (which is most definitely NOT a bad thing. Just not an authentic vintage thing IMO)

Thanks for the reply. You can't go wrong with an F that's for sure. I will almost definitely go VF. Will play the Fender over the weekend. If it doesn't absolutely blow my socks off, Fender will be in my past.

Yeah I like Fender but it doesn’t hold up to an Fbass. Necks are faster and much more comfortable to me. The b strings are better, preamps are better. I dunno the fenders are still good but not the same

Thanks for the reply. What I find with most new Fenders is the necks can be a bit chunky and slow. But every now and then there's one that just stands above the others. Was thinking about going with Aguilar pups if I grab the VF
