Club Fbass (thread 13)

I’m reaching out to the AC Classic players here. I’ve heard a few YouTube videos and read a lot. I don’t expect to get anyone to say it isn’t a fantastic instrument, but I’m curious about the impressions of the tone, the piezo, mag, individually and blended. I need a little more variety in some situations than some. Still, I love that upright tone I’m hearing. Some say the tapewounds are part of that.

So, talk me into or out of it. Your choice.

Love playing this song with my BN5. Jazz bass on steroids, as they say! I actually almost didn't boost any of the frequencies at all and I like it like that. Let me know what you think. Who usually plays with all the frequencies boosted all the way up?

I almost never watch any play along video all the way through. I couldn’t turn this one off. Well done.

So, I do boost mine some times, some times only the mids, sometimes I just play passive. Your philosophy reminds me of something Alain Caron said in interview regarding playing in passive mode, or with the FB Pre, no boost. It is an amazing sound in its purest form.

That’s super nice of you, appreciate it!

And yea, I am sold on using just a tiny bit of boost. If I need more “bass” I just increase the volume a bit and that’s better to keep the balance across different strings.

I didn’t get a lot of response to my query, but I’m chalking that up to the available field. I have worked with Donovan and Marcel to get a build started. They AC5 has been a desire of mine for quite some time. The classic really came forward as I listened and read what I could find. It’s hard not to like Alain’s playing and his take on all things bass. If I can do half as well, it will be a successful adventure. Now… the wait begins. :bassist::hyper:

Does anyone know how the dispute between the jamiroqui and the original bass player terminated. He was screwing tge bass player for royalties as he co-wrote a few songs.

Does anyone have a 32.5" BN? I see that they offer that length but haven't been able to find any videos. Leaning towards ordering a 32 or 33" Fodera to be honest, but I want to explore all the options. The 34.5 sound so great, I'm curious how much of that would carry over to medium scale.

Are you looking for a 4, 5, or 6?

There are some folks that can speak to your scale question as I only have the 34.5 scale FBasses.

I haven't found recordings of the 32.5 scale, but
here's a link to Chelsea Gwizdala playing her 33" F Bass:

Here's Janek playing it:

Hi all!

I’m mostly a lurker. But I’m “unlurking” cause of the scarcity of 32.5” Fbass info.

Took delivery of this about 2 weeks ago!

  • 32.5” scale length
  • 17mm string spacing
  • String through body option
  • Off-Set Face Dots
  • Black hardware
  • Ash Body
  • Maple neck and fretboard
  • Tortoise pickguard
  • Flat Top Body

Recorded a short video on the day I got it.

b6an on Instagram: "Dialed in this punchy tone on my new @fbassinc BN5. Pickup blende : Bridge 100%. Neck at 50%. Preamp: Bass 50%. Mids 75%. Highs 50%. #bass #bassist #bassplayer #fbass #fbassbn5 #bn5 #funk #bassplayersunited #fusion #jazz #jazzbass"

If anyone needs a tone reference with no backing music and more Low B, I can cook one up.
