Club Fbass (thread 13)

Hi all!

I’m mostly a lurker. But I’m “unlurking” cause of the scarcity of 32.5” Fbass info.

Took delivery of this about 2 weeks ago!

  • 32.5” scale length
  • 17mm string spacing
  • String through body option
  • Off-Set Face Dots
  • Black hardware
  • Ash Body
  • Maple neck and fretboard
  • Tortoise pickguard
  • Flat Top Body

Recorded a short video on the day I got it.

b6an on Instagram: "Dialed in this punchy tone on my new @fbassinc BN5. Pickup blende : Bridge 100%. Neck at 50%. Preamp: Bass 50%. Mids 75%. Highs 50%. #bass #bassist #bassplayer #fbass #fbassbn5 #bn5 #funk #bassplayersunited #fusion #jazz #jazzbass"

If anyone needs a tone reference with no backing music and more Low B, I can cook one up. View attachment 4797074 View attachment 4797075 View attachment 4797076 View attachment 4797077

Love the color combo and the flat top! Sounds great too, but of course it would. It's an F Bass!

Hi guys, does anyone know if F bass maple necks are nitro lacquered? I just realized the Dunlop 65 cleaner/polish which I am using for cleaning has little bit of silicone. I understand it cant be used on body anymore (which is nitro) but was thinking that maybe I could at least keep it to clean the fingerboard and back of the neck ?

I don't believe the finish is nitro anymore, it was changed in 2008 ish. Not sure about the back of the neck, but some info in a previous Fbass club post (below).

My suggestion would be to contact Fbass and ask what they recommend. One advantage of owning an Fbass is the support!

Club F-Bass (Part II)

FS: f bass BN5 finger ramp made of ebony. Attached with double sided tape. Just throwing this out there. Only a couple months old.
$200 shipped

I am considering buying an older pre-2000 BNF5 that was built passive but the seller has installed an Audere preamp. The pickups are original single coils.
Does anyone have an opinion on how different the sound would be compared to one with a F bass preamp? Thanks for any info !

At one point I'd read through every club fbass thread here, and I don't recall seeing the frequency bands specified. Since it's proprietary they may not provide that info either (but you could ask).

That said, F-basses sound amazing flat, and the Audere I had in a Jazz was fantastic, so I have no doubt you'd get great sound from it! And maybe someone fairly unique!

I like the F bass preamp a lot, but I bet the bass you're considering would sound great with the Audere. Somewhat different flavored icing on the same fantastic cake. I currently have a newer BN5 and a year 2000 fully passive AC5. I love them both. Sometimes I'll use my amp or other eq to boost mids or bass a bit on the passive one. As mngnt said, these basses sound great flat. Any preamp is icing and you probably won't need to pile a ton of it on (but even if you do it'll probably still sound great).

Well, here is what I am looking at F Bass BNF5 1997 Autumn Burst | Reverb
I really appreciate the opinion of those of you in the know about these amazing basses. Wondering if you could let me know any negatives including price opinion. It also has the fixed bridge which makes setting up the action not as easy.
I have been messaging the seller. I dropped the hint of my TB name and feedback [ without directly saying it ] hoping he would contact me here. That way we could drop price as he would not have to pay 10% to reverb and I would not have to pay 10% sales tax......but he did not take the hint.
