Club Fbass (thread 13)

OK, so far the verdict is that this thing kills. Really loving it! The other cool thing that wasn’t obvious in the photos on Bass Buddha’s site was that this thing just kinda glows. It’s going to look incredible under stage lights.

That's a great photo pf the relief. I have ad "flat" basses in the past and that square corner hurt. A lot. I have had 2 flat carve F Bass now and I never notice that edge on those basses. I will say that I kind of like the way my Hale Blue bass flies under the radar.

Anyway, I love everything about that bass. If I had room for another, it could be a custom build I might start.

I have one very small inkling of a thing I’d probably change but it’s not the end of the world. It was ordered with a roasted maple fingerboard and a non-roasted maple neck. The contrast looks kinda cool but I probably would have gotten the neck roasted as well.

Been playing around with recording my BN5 Deluxe and testing some hardware and plugin signal chains with amp and cab sims, and even reamping a dry signal through pedals. I think I’m leaning towards running the bass in passive mode. It just seems to “work” for what I’m doing, as much as I’d like to keep the preamp on. For context I’m working on “heavier” metal/industrial/punk sound ideas. I’m trying to standardize and simplify signal chain so I can finish raw ideas faster. I tend to use my Spector Euro 5 with EMG pickups for this stuff, but no reason not to try the BN.

Anyone here find themselves favoring the passive BN sound?

Received this BN5 today. It’s pretty sharp, but I’m not sure the Trickfish preamp the previous owner had installed is an upgrade on the stock one, if anything it’s not as hot. I’ll give it some time before I have the F Bass preamp installed. View attachment 5255791 View attachment 5255792 View attachment 5255793
One of my fav FBass finishes. I have a BN5 in roasted ash with an ebony fingerboard which is my #1. Gotta say though…although I’ve never tried a Trickfish preamp, it is beyond me why anyone would swap out an FBass preamp. I can’t imagine a better sounding pre. It’s one of the reasons I have become addicted to FBasses.

I think I agree. I’m giving it a little time, and I have a Trickfish IPA pre in my Serek Midwestern 2 that absolutely rips, but so far I’m not sure why they took the perfectly awesome F Bass preamp out and had the Trickfish installed.

Yep… I play them in passive mode all the time. Alain Caron says in a video that he does as well. I’ve also found that I favor the bridge pickup too. That’s kind of me for me, but I really dig it.

Yeah… I can’t see that either. The F Bass Pre is incredible.

There appears to be an issue with the output jack on my new-to-me BN5, so I opened up the control cavity to find this rats nest. Apparently the Trickfish Preamp is 18v, because there are two batteries crammed in there, one of them in a little plastic bag. I’m having the output jack fixed and also having them put the stock F Bass preamp back in there.
