Club Fbass (thread 13)

is there any curvature where your fretting forearm rests

I'm not sure where you're resting your fretting forearm but it shouldn't be on your bass. :)

If you're talking about your "plucking" hand then I don't anticipate any issues. There's a curve on body and the flat top makes it thinner than the typical carved top. There's a return policy but I don't think I'll need to use it.

Currently I have a BN5, a VF5 JJ (70s position) and a VF5 PJ (60s position). I absolutely love all three! In all honesty I mostly reach for the BN. It's just the perfect bass and for my playing style and ability, does everything I need it to. There are times however when I just want to groove on a passive P. What a coincidence, Fbass makes an outstanding P bass. Then when I want a snappy 70s jazz, guess what? Fbass does that perfectly as well! Everybody is different and likes different things, the good news is no matter what you're looking for, Fbass has you covered!
P.s. I have also owned a BNF6, and an AC5 and they were amazingly beautifully crafted instruments. Unfortunately I've come to realize as much as I love the soothing tones of fretless, it's just not really my style. But there is a reason they call them the King of fretless basses.View attachment 5205902

Wow, great collection..cheers!

So...

Before my new VF5 PJ has arrived from Denmark, I went and bought another BN5 I saw on Reverb. I made the deal off-line to save myself and the seller some dough. It's marked a 2nd but the only reason seems to be because the finish came out a darker shade than it typically does on this particular finish, and it has a Trickfish preamp installed, but it includes the original F Bass preamp in the bag. I have a Serek Midwestern 2 5-string with the Trickfish IPA and it sounds incredible, so I'm excited to see how the Trickfish works with the BN5.

Looks beautiful! Sometimes a small mineral stain in a neck or fretboard will cause F Bass to mark it that way as well. Not a big deal at all, just part of their commitment to excellence.

I saw that one this morning, it’s pretty sharp. Never dealt with Kebo, but they have some good stuff and their pricing seems fair for Reverb (and better off, I hope ;)).

You're really going all in on the F Basses- don’t blame you, they are pretty great. Love my BN5 (I have an odd way of showing it though) :bassist:

He was awesome to deal with, made the process easy as can be. I saved quite a bit on the price, and because I’m in Indiana, no tax was collected. Nice guy too!

I saw the pine grey finish in three different pics and none of them quite captured the in-person effect. It wasn’t listed as a color shift finish but it seems like it could’ve been. I’m curious how different the new finishes come across in-person compared to how they photograph.

They’re big on the purpleheart fingerboards too… which are cool, but I thought they fade over time…
True that…if not sealed properly, they’ll turn more brown pretty quickly. Not sure how Fbass finishes theirs, but I’ve had an MTD AG6, AG5, and AG4 with purpleheart fb—still have the 4 version. They all stayed quite vivid purple (flipped the 5 fairly quickly, but had the 6 for a couple years…)

Mike T’s sealer seems to keep the color intact. Finger’s crossed, as my 4 is a long-term keeper.

Donovan has a couple BN’s in the pipeline that are listed as color shift. One is the blue purple and the other is a red gold. I almost said yes to the red gold, but with my hale blue and blue fade in hand and AC Classic due soon, I decided I need to be done. They are stunning finishes, though.

I just got an MTD I ordered from Donovan, but going to his youtube channel to watch the video for my bass, the one for that fade BN5 always pops up- it's a GORGEOUS bass, and I'm not always big on those fade finishes...
