Club Fbass (thread 13)

So, the F Bass that my friend let me borrow for the week will be going back to him. Being that this is/was my first experience with a "boutique" bass, I can see why some professionals, enthusiasts, and hobbyists (serious and perhaps not so serious) who can afford it move toward this direction.

While my Ibby Prestige still feels like "home", there are things I felt and heard in the F Bass that were definitely pluses over even a high end production instrument. I would love to see what a 4 stringer would feel like, being that my current GAS is for a 4 string Fender Jazz. (I've been playing around with a Squier Affinity the last couple of days also at the music store I help at 1-2x a week, and I must say it's quite comfortable)

I'm glad I got to "test drive" this bass. Perhaps one day I'll be fortunate enough to come to this thread and say, "may I have a number please". That's the plan anyway.

In the mean time, I'll just drop in and drool over everyone else's F Basses.

I was considering the purchase of a VF4, bur here in Italy is quite hard to get one. First of all, i would like to know your impression, (talking especially with the VF4 owners) about, tone, balance and playability. Lucky me, i would move to NY for about 6 month in august, maybe it would be easyer to find one at least to try, i tested just few BN4 and it was a great feeling.

I saw also few of them with a different neck joint, the body shape is different, more similiar to the BN4, anyone could explain this difference (for example there's one on sale at Newjersey Guitars with this different neck joint)

Unlike other clubs, I've been providing links back to the originating post. I've been keeping the roster with links in an html file on my local computers, editing it, then posting it on talkbass. That's what you had to do in the old forums, but the new ones allow for copying with links. I just have to get a correct copy first, then can move on from there.

As I have said before, you don't have to be a current Fbass owner to be in the club. I adopted that policy as it became impossible to manage numbers with people coming and going -- it made everyone's club numbers shift.

But given your forceful complaint, I will try to remember to pull out out the next time I edit and post the roster.

I have not owned a VF4 so I cannot help directly, but having owned a VF5, I can tell you that it has wonderful playability -- much better than the Fender Jazz clones, great tone, and great balance on the strap. I don't know anything about the neck joint though, sorry.
