I had a BN4 that, if I still had, I'd gladly sell to you.
My BN5 killed it.
I sold it and got a 1970 P that kills as well.

What a shame!! Im moving to Nyc this summer due to my job, i will stay for about 6 months, hope to have enough time to find one, for instance your Vf was sick!! To be honest i would prefer a PJ...I had a BN4 that, if I still had, I'd gladly sell to you.

I thought the upper bout looked a bit shorter than my bn5. But now that I've looked at some vf pictures, you're right. Definitely not a vf.Nah...I think its a BN5??....

I asked George for a P/J when I ordered it.
He gave me some bs about phasing and wouldn't build it for me, so I went with the standard J/J.
May still have it had it been P/J.
Now he builds P/Js all the time.
Thanks, George.
I'm seriously thinking about placing an order once in NYC....it's damn expensive but here in Italy even more....some of you out there could gladly describe the main diffrences between the BN and VF neck?? In terms of feeling, playability, overall quality....

Not an Fbass expert, but I've played one for the last 15 years. About 2 months after I bought mine the store got in a Studio model. Not sure if the electronics are the same as the new ones that George is making now, this was back in 2000. I must say, if it had been there when I bought my BN5, there would have been a good chance that I would have gotten the Studio instead. It has a slightly larger body that made it feel a little more Fenderish to me, a little more familiar, a little shorter neck, 20 frets instead of 22. Didn't have a chance to A/B with my BN5 so I might have stuck with the BN based on sound, but I sure liked the ergonomics on it, not that I don't with the BN. Kinda hard to go wrong with any Fbass IMHO. JimSo who's the F Bass expert on talkbass? What's your opinion on these Studio basses???

Thanks!!!
Generally speaking, BNs have a more more modern, thinner profile, while VFs have a chunkier vintage vibe. Generally speaking.
Originally I wanted a thin neck on my VF, but George talked me out of it, and I'm glad he did! The tone and feel is just perfect.
I just missed the PJ that was at Bass Club Chicago..wanted that bass badly. I will gladly take your VF4 off your hands tho if you wanna trade...I got two Suhr's and a BN5 custom with MOP block inlays.. all of them under 10 lbs... think about it maybe.?..
Hummm, in my experience truss adjustments give immediate results. True, the neck then adjusts to the new tension, but I feel these "after adjustment" changes are tiny compared with the ones resulting from the adjustment itsslf. That'd be true with all my basses, not only my Fs.
Not to worry you, but perhaps (if this is a bolt on) the neck/body joint may be working, or the bridge or the nut. Before continuing, make sure there are not any other areas in your bass that may be moving. Just a thought

Very cooll!! If money hadn't been an issue back then I would have love to have gotten that Studio back then. It had a different feel enough to warrant having both that and my BN5. I would imagine if it had the same electronics as the new Studios it would have a different sound palette also. When do you expect it? Does George already have these made or is he building them when ordered? I guess only 5 are being made. Let us know when you get it! JimThanks for the info Jim! I have a Studio 5 w/ solid Root Beer finish and Maple fb on order now. It should be shipping soon! View attachment 632379
