Club Fbass (thread 13)

Very cooll!! If money hadn't been an issue back then I would have love to have gotten that Studio back then. It had a different feel enough to warrant having both that and my BN5. I would imagine if it had the same electronics as the new Studios it would have a different sound palette also. When do you expect it? Does George already have these made or is he building them when ordered? I guess only 5 are being made. Let us know when you get it! Jim

The posting on fbass.com dated April 3, 2015 said there were only 6 Studio five strings made this year. There were only 2 left when I ordered - a natural ash and solid root beer metallic with gold flake. So I ordered the root beer and there was only the natural ash left. It might still be available if anyone is interested (top bass in that photo). Contact Marcel at F Bass if your interested. Mine is scheduled to ship next week! I will post back here after I get it.

Thanks!!!

Hi Maiden Bass, the Studio model has some different specs that set it apart from the BN series:

-21 frets
-More body mass to neck mass ratio (but not a larger body per se )
-Different shape and size( smaller/less pronounced) upper horn- but more contact with the neck.
-Rounder body overall
-One piece back of neck
-Nitro finish
-34 scale instead of 34 1/2 ( at least this run)
-"Vintage" Seymour Duncan Fbass pups ( re- created based on early 2000's)

To me these are great sounding basses, mine turned out stellar ( from just last Fall)

Cheers,
Mitch

They look cool but I don't think the "bigger body" thing would work for me as well as my current BN5. At over 10lbs, my BN5 feels light and balances perfectly because of the unique shape (extended upper horn mainly).

Also, I am more of a 70's spacing guy when it comes to the bridge pickup.

I think they look great and I am a big fan of Duncan PU, but I would likely just stick to BN5's.

I would love to try one out though.....

Hi Brent, just to be clear the Studio does not really have a "bigger body" in overall size with any notice- just more body wood to neck wood ratio. But yes the upper horn is different but (at least for me) balances really well for my body. Also, standard on both the BNs and Studios is 60s spacing pup position....so unless you got a custom BN5 it "should" be 60s. If you want to try one anyone in the Toronto /GTA area can come give mine a spin:)

Thanks for the info.

I will take you up on that maybe in the next few weeks. I forget that you haven't tried out my alder/red oak/mango Monarch 5 yet either.

Cheers,

Brent

The one I played was also natural ash, maple board, beautiful. If I wasn't broke right now I would think that the Cosmos was giving me a second chance to buy it:cool: Jim

yes! sorry…the original Studios had 20 frets…but George figured a way to add the extra fret without disrupting the basic design for this run of 6. Apologies:)

Ok, I'll forgive you just this one time Mitch:thumbsup: I think we all have a bass or 2 that we've played somewhere , in a store or whatever, that we always remember, that Studio was that bass for me. It felt like it was made for me, I wouldn't sell my BN to get one, but if I ever had some "disposable" income again, it would be at the top of the list., and if George was no longer building them I would make him an offer he couldn't refuse! Well, I changed my mind on the root beer (because of the nitro finish) I just feel like the natural is gonna hold up better over the long run. So natural it is! I believe the root beer studio is now available! Contact Marcel if you're in the mood for some root beer! ;)
