Club Fbass (thread 13)

Nope. It was my early venture into 6 strings and the fretboard was too big for me. I traded it to the LowEnd on a 5 string. That's the famous LowEnd wall! I have seen many satin blue Fbasses but not as good as that particular bass! It was killer in person!

After watching serious amounts of Fbass vids on youtube and reading this thread I bought used Fbass without ever even trying one out! I work as pro musician and have owned alot of boutique basses and this one just blew me away! I have played 6 festival gigs with it ao far and jammed hours in hotel room with my headphone amp. The bass feels amazing and the tone has something close to j-bass but alot more! It really sits in the mix and cuts thru like nothing else! Only minor complain would be the flimsy pots. They are really loose and move around easily, any other have this on their fbass?

Anyway, no pix no bass!

Congrats on the new Fbass Jesse. Never had this issue or any issue with any of my Fbasses and I've owned 6 of them. Sounds like someone has done some work and didn't tighten them up all the way when it was reassembled or maybe left off some washers? It should be easy to get that fixed. I don't know if that warrants a trip back to the maker but it's up to you and whether you want some other work or checkups done.

Going out on a limb, but I interpreted:

To mean that the knobs rotate quite easily in that there isn't much resistance when you turn them. Not that they weren't threaded, locked down and seated properly.

IMHO, they do turn too freely and feel less than robust. It's not just the preamp section which are plastic, but even the metal pots for the VVT.

But as Jesse mentioned, otherwise just a joy to play :)

I have the same experience. The knobs on my FBass's (current and past) do tend to have low resistance. For me that is not a bad thing and never bothered me. The sadowsky's I have owned have also all had much less resistance when compared to my Lull or Wilkins. I think different builders have different idea's of what amount of resistance is best.

Beautiful bass, I'm a sucker for Georges' amber bursts! In regards to the loose controls, Fbass knobs do have a little less resistance when turning then other basses I've owned, and this is normal. Other Fbasses I've played felt the same way and other owners over the years have mentioned it. My BN5 is a '99 and in the 15 years I've been playing it there have been no problems with them becoming scratchy or anything. I wouldn't worry about it, just enjoy your awesome bass, Jim

Yeah, this is what i meant. Its not really a problem, but something that i havent had in my other basses. And its ok, i can live with it because everything else in this bass is just pure love! :)

I agree, just making an observation. And as you said "everything else is pure love! :)"

So much so, I just had the BN4 refinished - I don't do that unless I plan on keeping a bass.

Isn't the balance on a strap crazy good! That was one of the first things I noticed when I first saw mine at the local store, perfect, not even the slightest movement even when at a sharp angle, classic guitar style. That and first position is closer than normal, even it being 34.5 scale. Two of my biggest gripes about past basses I've owned, no problem with the BN series. Jim

Agreed, a very important factor for me, I can't stand neck dive. I can put the BN4 at any angle and it just stays, 45° all night and I'm good to go.

I feel the same.

My BN-5 fretless is over 10lbs and feels lighter than other 9lb basses I have owned. Balance is amazing. I am also a 34" guy as I have small hands and just prefer it. The FBass 34.5" is very manageable as the bass sits close to the body (I.e. the first fret is closer to me than many shorter scale basses).

Great design and overall amazing basses. Plus George, Marcel and the rest of the FBass team are amazing people. I think I am due for an hour drive to Hamilton soon!

P.S. The FBass padded straps made by Levy's are incredible. Suprisingly fairly inexpensive as well.

Hey Baird, like your new avatar! We lost Jack Bruce and Chris Squier in just a little over 6 months from each other, not a lot of my original influences left, Casady and Lesh still hanging in there though:bassist:Jim

Hey Baird, like your new avatar! We lost Jack Bruce and Chris Squier in just a little over 6 months from each other, not a lot of my original influences left, Casady and Lesh still hanging in there though:bassist:Jim
Yup!

I have been a huge Yes fan since the early 80's when I was barely a teenager and was lucky enough to see them with Steve Howe as well as Trevor Rabin. Him going so quick really sucked.
