As the VF5s started shipping sometime in 2013 with Aguilar pickups, can anyone comment on the tonal difference between the pickups that were originally used on the VF5 Jazz bass and the Aguilar pickups (AG-J-HC) now being used?

As the VF5s started shipping sometime in 2013 with Aguilar pickups, can anyone comment on the tonal difference between the pickups that were originally used on the VF5 Jazz bass and the Aguilar pickups (AG-J-HC) now being used?

I called Fbass, and I think I talked with George. The original pickups were hand-wound and single-coil. The Agular pickups have a similar or better tone and are hum-cancelling and go well with the preamp. So, it seems like a win-win.

We did back to back a/b ing on the two types a little while ago ..and i believe in the same instrument too…so it was a pretty accurate test. The upshot was that the new HC Aguilars were probably the closest in tone to regular single coils than any other HC pups we've heard so far. That said, there is always some difference no matter but these pups were so close it began to almost not make a difference. That says a lot I think. After the test they were put into some basses and any of the ones I got to play also sounded great. BTW, the Aggie 60s singles, P4, and P5 pups work really well also.

Yes sticker is off! I took it off. If he wants in I'm sure he'll stop by. It's not his first Fbass.

If my memory serves me correctly...Odin was 4mm and I think this one "Wallace" is a 2 mm dot....Maybe Marcel can confirm...but pretty sure!!!

Please, what is the dots size on your fingerboard ?
