@RHA III I'm not sure there is a preference for a particular era. My BN5's are from 2013 and 2016, both are great. I had a 2006 BNF5 which also played/sounded great.

I think if you are looking into F's any year will be good.

Does anyone have a pic of a VF with single coils AND a ramp?

I just picked up a VF-5 and it feels naked without a ramp. Before I bring it over to George, I want to ensure it doesn't look completely ridiculous.

First gig with the new VF-5 tomorrow night. I'm excited to see how it stands up to my Fodera and Valenti!

The Alleva pickups and the FBass pre work together perfectly. With my Monique and Berg AE210 it is deadly!

She's a keeper for sure.

Heres my VF5 with new ebony ramp I ordered from Fbass

The two things I love about ebony ramps are that:
(1) They are ebony, a great wood, and not plastic.
(2) They have a nice feel when you play, particularly when your hands get sweaty.

And while I think the ebony ramp looks good on your bass, it is because of the black pick guard and black dots on the finger board. Without those, I'm not sure I personally would like the ebony ramp.

The problem with ebony ramp is unless you are just a few feet from your bass, you really can't tell that it is wood and not a black plastic like the pickup covers of the single coil pickups.

Plus, ebony ramps cover up even prettier wood.

I've had people ask about that huge black pickup on my basses that had ebony finger ramps. I had to point out that the pickups are actually hidden under pretty wood, and that the big black thing in the center of my bass is just a block of black wood. No one looks back at me with a look of, "Oh, that makes sense."

Again, I'd consider an ebony ramp for your bass because of the black pick guard, black pickup covers and black dot markings on your finger board. I think it looks good on your bass.

Here is an example of a bass where I stopped using the ebony ramp.

That massive black rectangle in the middle of the bass just dominated the look of bass and took people's eyes away from the more subtle detail and beauty of the rest of the bass.

By the way, the apparent changes in finish on the left side of the bass are artifacts from my poor photography, they are not there on the actual bass.
