You are the man Rudy, thank you! Just ordered both. The nut won't come off with the crank because the slots all broke off, so it's just the hole that is visible now. I know there are tools for this situation too but I may take the bass and nut to a luthier just to be safe, since this bass is a prized possession for me.
Funny part is the rod turned just enough before the nut broke that the action is absolutely perfect now and the bass is singing. Every note clear as a bell. But yeah, I'm going to have to get it repaired once the parts show up.
