P neck (1-3/4" nut), Madagascar rosewood bd on no tint maple. D'Addario chromes 105-50 to start.
Took some light off the maple to reveal the grain

If weight is the X factor, why doesnt Roger use Basswood? It's light, and readily available in Japan.
Anyway, I am considering upgrading my pickup to Sadowsky Soapbar with VTC preamp.
Can someone please advice on how does it sound with a 'Passive" soapbar?

As for the passive soapbar, it is going to have a lot to do with it's position. I have a
Modern. That bass has two soaps - one on the bridge position and another in more of a mid position. That bass sounds very good passive. The mid PU takes on almost a P-bass vibe when soloed.
Even passive, they are still smoother than the more classic designs.

Nice spec; I really like matching headstocks.
From recently getting a WL, I can tell you that I use the mid boost quite a bit. I'm using the higher frequency and I use it whenever I want the bass to stand out. If the bass is featured in an into or break, I'll turn it on and it helps the bass stand out just that much more in the mix.
OTOH, I never use the D tuner.

My first bass many many years ago was a Kramer neck through with EMG's, basswood body and ebony board. It was the brightest bass you ever heard! It did not have a thick low end or low mid punch really. It was a light bass though!!
My guess is basswood might not reproduce the fundamental Sadowsky sound. Just my guess and opinion though based in my experience, so take it with a grain of salt.

G&L use this some. At least some basswood is soft enough to have bridges rip out under string tension. I had this happen to me, personally, on a Tribute 2500L model. While it was setup for both string thru bridge and string thru body, trust me stringing thru the bridge was more tension than the mounting screws could take and maintain their grip in the wood. I was not the only person that had this happen.
There may be "basswood that's good," but I'd like to never own one of those again.

Some early Sadowsky's had Basswood Bodies, usually with figured maple tops from what I can recall.
One of the reasons I stopped using basswood was the weight was very inconsistent. I had some very heavy basswood bodies.
Also, basswood is so plain, it really only works with solid colors.

You've got it! I had seen one pic of an MM style Sadowsky, and that inspired me to ask the shop if I could have one too. The Sadowsky pre is cleaner than the MM pre, but the pickup is a Nordstrand MM5.2, and the net result is that the bass isn't a tone clone, but still has plenty of MM growl and sizzle. It's been my #1 rock bass since I gigged it.
I can't argue with that. I've played a few solid Basswood bodied basses that were well over 10lbs. No complaints from me for not using it anymore!
Here's two of my Braz. The first pic is from 2003 braz and the second is 2010 braz. The old one is much darker with not much grain to show. Looks a lot like the braz board one my old fenders. The newer one as more grain and red coming out.
Now can you tell which one, if any, is master grade?
They're both winners IMO, but like gillento I especially dig the stripey pattern on the new one.
