Yes, absolutely. I do understand that you hate wear of any kind on your own basses. I'm now that way about my new ones, but if dings happen I'll stop worrying.

Quick story for everyone. I'm filling in for another bass player in 2 weeks for a Saturday night gig. I spoke with the drummer and he wanted to get together first to see how it would work. He suggested an open mike night at an Elks Lodge 20 miles away. I arrived around 8:30, met the drummer, and took to the stage @9. We player 3 songs with the 3rd act. When that ended the next person asked if the drummer and myself could stay. This went on all night with th exception of 2 acts. We played from 9 to 1am with two 15 minute breaks. Everyone was constantly coming up to me and commenting on how well the bass sounded, the depth and clarity. Asking what brand it was. One guy looked at the bass, then the amp (Eden 1x15 combo), and had a confused look in his face, it was priceless.
We all know how good these basses are , it nice to see the "public" appreciate the also.

great story. what bass did you play at theat gig? (some photos of the gig and/or bass would also be appreciated :cool:)

We played mostly 3 or 4 chord songs.
The ones I can remember are White Rabbit, Folsom prison,
Almost cut my hair , Gimmee 3 steps.
I have an 07 Sad. with big singles.
I dont have pics. of the gig, I'll try to link a picture of the bass.

Thinkin' of a getting a Sadowsky Metro or a Fodera YY Standard to soften the wait for my Skjold.

Which one of these two would you choose?

I don't like hum, so I'd probably replace the SCs on the WL if I got that. Then there's something about Olympic White that I just love. My brother's old Fender, which is super worn (in) and probably has the nicest feel I've yet to encounter on a bass, has that same finish. It's also the only Fender I've ever liked.

I don't need a new bass, nor do I have any real spec preference. Just asking what you would get and why. :)

Any neck dive on the WL models? How does, or how well does the WL preamp work HCs? Anybody noticed any real difference in build quality between NYC and Metros?

It was, I bought it in 1/09.
It's a little beatup ( which is the way I like it, dont have to worry about nicks and scratches). It plays like a monster, took me a while to "dial it in". The refinements that Rodger puts in his instruments are extraordinary, well thought out and executed perfectly. As if I'm saying something everyone else doesn't know.

With the Olympic White bass @ 4.20 kg (9-1/4lb), neck dive is a non issue. (I don't see a weight indicated for the burst bass). I have a 7.7lb Sad' & neck dive is not a problem at all & it has the same style tuners.

Edit: There is quite a difference in price between the 2 basses. Wonder why.

Thanks for the reply! However, I was mostly worried about neck dive on WL models. I remember someone mentioned it earlier here on a TB or perhaps on Sad's own forum.

Also, if someone has a picture of a worn Sadowsky with an olympic white finish, I'd love to see it.

The concern you refer to may be with someone's ultra lite NYC WL bass, not sure about that. Neck dive is primarily caused by not enough weight in the body to counter the neck/headstock weight. The Metros in question here are not going to have that issue. Keep in mind also that a J bass sitting on your thigh with no strap tends to dive more so than a P bass because the bottom of the waist is closer to the back of the body.

Spent the day in the studio. 3 more tracks with my NYC, got a really aggressive sound this time for these particular tracks (all rockers). I did the other 2 with my flatwound strung Lakland Skyline Hollowbody. I can't wait to put some flats on one of my Sadowskys once I get my NYC PJ. Somewhere between the 2 sounds today might be just perfect.
