Club Sadowsky!!!

Quick question. The NYCs come with strap locks installed, correct? Do the metros? I can't tell... The strap button is a little different than most I've seen, but I don't think it's a strap lock. I did call the NYC store and they do use dunlop originals. I am just not familiar with strap locks and wouldn't know what one would look like if I did have them...

I just ask because I'd like to get some installed this weekend when they put the VTC in on my bass...

+1 on the NYC's. I can't remember with the Metro's, but you can tell by just looking. If you can see the screw that holds the strap button on (i.e., the screw is pretty much even with the top edge of the button) then it's not a strap lock. If the button looks hollow, then it's the very nice 'dual action' dunlap strap buttons, which can be used with or without the straplock system.

Must be something in the air...
I played a gig this weekend with my '66 Jazz Bass. Half way through the set the strap decided it had had enough of holding up that pesky bass, and the horn-end strap eyelet ripped wide open. Luckily I caught it before it hit the ground :eek:

That stupid strap was calcified. I should pay more attention.

Now back to your regularly scheduled Sadowsky discussion...

Am I the only one to find the Sadowsky bridge design to be a bit of a bugger? Just very carefully re-strung my new 3-week old Metro for the first time and ended up putting a small scratch on the top of my Bass just behind the bridge!!! I have never had this happen to a Bass in all my years of playing.

Looks like I'll have to put some masking tape down in that position everytime I re-string which won't exactly be practical in an emergency situation. The Hipshot bridges on my other Basses are so much easier :help:

Am feeling a little ill at making a small blemish SOOOO early in owning this instrument!

Disclaimer: This is not a Sadowsky Bashing Post, just very dissapointed about this unforeseen problem!

The bridge is designed to either string through the back or front. If you restring with the ball end through the front of the bridge and slide it into place you will not scratch your bass. Check it out. You will find the bridge is a great design.

The only issue I've ever had is with a full size (i.e., 128 or so) non tapered B string. You have to be just a touch careful there when sliding the string from the quick release 'hole' to the 'anchor hole'. Otherwise, if acts like any other quick release bridge I've dealt with. As Joey suggests, just feed the string through the top/front and slide if over.

The Metro isn't through-body stringing and the front loading isn't so simple, as the holes are quite a snug fit to the size of the Ball end (on both the old and new strings).
Also, the angle of the string at the back of the bridge that holds the ball end is quite steep so when removing and locking in the string the clearance between the ball end and body is tiny. Hence the requirement of masking tape.

Man, it's tough to describe but as you say the general design is great but not well executed on this particular Bass it seems :(

FWIW, I always string from the front, and yes, it can require a little manipulation in some cases to slide the BE to the anchor spot, but at least I haven't found it too difficult to do without marring the surface.

I always prefer the G string from the rear...:D;). oh wait...what are we talking about??

Always use a piece of tape behind the bridge (any bridge not just ours) to not scratch the body...Yes the "E" and "B" strings need a little tweaking but nothing crazy. and I would also string from the front, not pull the string all the way through from the back of the bridge.
