I actually emailed Roger on this very subject a few months back. He said that matching veneer headstocks were in the experimental stages. Nothing for sure though. I personally think matching veneer headstocks would look great.

After I got my MV4 in 9/06, I got a Sadowsky NeoStrap and love it. This has the brand name about 3 1/2" up from the end of the cloth part of the strap.

I loved it so much that I got a second NeoStrap in 8/10, last summer. This one has the brand logo only 1" up from the end of the cloth.

Ever since I bought the second one, there's a chemical-y aroma emanating from the strap that irritates my upper respiratory/upper chest area like some harsh cleaning materials can. While not as strong as last August, it still bothers me each time I use it--as recently as at a jam last night.

I was hoping this would've gone away by now, and I sure don't recall this with my first Sadowsky strap.

Has any other Neo Strap owners encountered this problem? Does the smell/irritant eventually go away?

I used to use Comfort Straps, but they changed their original "formula" too, and I didn't like the stylistic changes--though not for any type of chemical-y smell. As I said, I love that first Neo I got in 2006.

Oh, well--just wondering if anyone else has ever experienced something like this with their Neo Strap. What's a similar product, because I don't think I'm keeping this second strap... If these types of aromas don't bother you, PM me an offer! (It's a medium length strap--cont. US only.)

I am using the Mono straps from Monocase. I have bought 4 of them. Great strap.

I have a Sadowsky strap and I love it. It's super comfy, even after 4 hours of holding up my MV4. Since I bought it in January of this year, it's had a distinct leathery smell. The ends of the strap are leather so that makes sense. It doesn't bother me at all, and I assume that it will fade with time like most leather things.

I've seen the painted ones, and those are cool to match painted bodies. I was talking about figured wood veneers. I always think that the natural figured tops (buckeye, koa, spalted maple, etc.) look odd without matching headstocks.

With that said, I'd still sell a few organs for that buckeye modern on the "in stock" page! :bassist:

I personally have yet to see a J style headstock with one. In my mind's eye, it seems like it would look very odd to me, so I guess my initial thought is, it would not be for me, but maybe I'll change my mind once I see one, so I'll reserve judgment. :)

The Sadowsky TYO Custom shop has done a few figured veneer headstocks!
I agree I think they are very cool and would make a great upgrade on the NYC basses!

Ok, I do like those, but I wonder if I'd like a natural one... just the figured wood. I may just like these because they're an elegant twist on what I'm already used to... colored to match the body. However, I will also say I'm generally not too much of a fan of colored headstocks with maple boards, so that last one looks the best to me, but they do look nice.

Let me know if you find a natural figured headstock. :)

I was thinking more about the Moderns than the straight J's. That buckeye bass is screaming for a matching a headstock!

Thanks for the reply--and to the others who did, as well. It's not a leather-y smell that bothers me; it's a chemical-y odor that is causing irritation in my upper chest/lungs when I wear it. Strange...

Thanks for the ideas about Mono straps, guys. I'll check around for them...

I have 2 Sadowsky straps. The new one (unused) has been kept in a pastic bag & has bit of a "chemical" smell, but the one I've had for awhile doesn't. It will dissipate if you're patient. Otherwise you could try some vinegar which absorbs odour. Test it 1st on a small hidden portion of the strap to make sure it won't discolour the fabric.

PS: As a side note, I have experienced black stain on T shirts from the exposed neoprene on the Comfort Straps.
