I agree, the front handle is a great addition!
The new Portabag is my favorite, and I'm slowly getting rid of everything else.

nah, in the end my Portabag just got home and I'm very happy with it (as I knew I would). The front handle on the new design is very very useful for me and I have more than enough space for the stuff I usually carry in my bag/case.

No problem bro. I've revisited all my posts on the subject ( from #854) & made some edits to clarify my points. This subject is quite relevant to Sadowsky Guitars I feel & don't want to be misunderstood.

This weekend I played an out of town 2-nighter on a borrowed Stingray 5 string. Why? So I could ride my motorcycle to the gig, of course! :D

It's a great bass and sounded good and phat, but boy did I miss the playability of my MV5. I was able to change strings and do a setup for the second night which was a huge improvement over the first, but it was still a bit of a fight. Not only are the necks of these two basses completely different widths, but getting all the notes to come out evenly just took so much effort. It's nice to make a comparison in a real world setting, though, and that makes me appreciate my Sadowsky that much more. :bassist:

Awesome!!!!! I've conned many a band member to haul my gear so i could ride to the gig...

I've used a SR5 on a few gigs and I've had the opposite thoughts actually.
I felt it was an awesome compliment to my Sadowsky- the string spacing just throws me off going back and forth between the two.

Yeah, the spacing really threw me off - not so much at the bridge, but at the nut. I also found myself playing on the wrong fret occasionally if I wasn't being really careful. I got used to it.

Other issues were it being neck heavy, the whole thing was a chunk and I didn't have a well padded strap, and the B string lacked the clarity that my MV5 has.

I'm really glad I got to try it, but if I were to ever have an EBMM I'd like a Sterling or 'Ray 4.

Well I finally got a wrap on the 1st overdub recording session with my Sadowsky bass. It was a real pleasure to explore a variety of settings with some material that was ideal for letting the bass tones be heard well.
I was thrilled to have an exquisite preamp to play through & I kept the compression to absolute minimum to avoid colouring the tone. I like to dig a bit so that's basically the only times the comp is called upon.(with one exception). The overdubs were in WAV & converted to Mac 128 mp3. This overdubbing is a very imperfect process so "it is what it is." Lots of personal liberties taken as well, with groove & bass lines. No carbon copying here.
I recorded 13 songs from "The Very Best Of The Eagles" & offer the whole folder for your access. They are numbered in the order that I feel works well for my own listening & not in order of preference. I made notation re. the bass settings & hope you can enjoy hearing a beloved Sad' w/flats. Not much of THAT going around :D

Phat!! That's some real bass tone there. Nice tight playin' too. I definitely have to woodshed on flats more.

Try the Stingray 4 because the Sterling is too "thin sounding", specially if you're used to the BIG Bottom of Sadowskys... I used to have a Sterling and it was very punchy and warm but lacked bottom end...

True, but if you drop the mids and pump the bass EQ on the Sterling, you can get it to round out pretty nicely. Still that signature tone, of course, but it's at least not the total midrange beast it is natively when set that way. But that's not why you buy one anyway. You buy one because you want that uber-grindy tone.
